Does he know how to recruit?

Does he know how to win without taking over someone elses team that's already good?

Can he rebuild any of the SEC dumpster fires looking for a new coach in an effective manner?

Doubtful. But would be interesting to see.

Is Tennessee even considered a real college program anymore?

Right, the Raiders were just killing it before him.

Hell, the Bucs weren't even that great with Dungy.

Half of college coaching is recruiting. How hard can it be to recruit young players looking for shot in the NFL, after he shows them his Super Bowl ring? Gruden would be a good coach at UT. Would he be Nick Saban good? Probably not, but they would be a hell of a lot better than they are now. Gruden is a home run hire if they can pull it off.

Exactly. There's a chance it wouldn't work, but his ceiling is very high.

I still don't think it will happen. I won't believe it until I hear it from Gruden himself.

Also, one thing I'm certain of is Gruden's coaching staff would be very, very good.

Of course he can. He'd have all the resources and support he could want. Why wouldn't he be able to?

How is this so hard to understand for so many?

It would make for a splash the first few months. Maybe some recruiting momentum, but then it would be an utter failure once the season unfolded.
