Gus has been a head coach for 3 years at 2 schools, he has no disciples
Chad Morris has been a GUS disciple since they were both HS coaches. GUS Malzahn is the reason Morris runs his HUNH and shaped his offensive philosophy.
Maybe protege is a more accurate term than disciple to describe Morris's relationship with GUS.

The pieces seem to be in place, but like you said, AU is better as the underdog.
Hopefully that will change. AU is recruiting at a high level and bringing in top coaches, so there's no reason it shouldn't.

The correct term is "hanged"
ETA: in fairness it's not a very well known rule

And Bert will prove once and for all that it's impossible to win the SEC at Arkansas. This is fun.

The West will be interesting this year. Auburn probably does have the most promising QB this year, but our WR corps outside of Duke are questionable.
I think our defense has had too many injuries (and an arrest) to be good but maybe we have just enough in the tank to battle a West that will be starting a lot of average QBs.

Questionably the most talented bunch in the SEC, yeah.
I like our defense. I have full faith in our starters, depth is our concern there and that's mainly in the secondary.
D-Line even without Daniels is one of the deepest and best in the SEC. We'll be fine there.
LB I'm pleased with. McKinzy and Frost will be 3rd year starters and both have the talent to go to the NFL. Throw in Tre Williams and Jeffery Holland and Id put those 4 against the top 4 LBs at any SEC school talent wise. The rest of our LBs are solid capable backups in this league.
In the secondary Matthews and Ford at safety and Hosley and Jones at CB are among the best group of starters in the SEC. We do have a serious depth issue there. We will feel the depth at corner as games go on and toward the end of the season. Any of our 4 starters go down with injury and we have a big problem.

I agree, the entire SEC conference will be calling Will Muschamp their daddy before you know it.

Someone please explain to me how the frick. You don't lose every offensive weapon and come out the favorite.
Got damn it.
Got damn it.

He said "promising"
Dak is a good college QB, but that's it. He won't be an NFL QB. He's already shown us what he's capable of. Jeremy Johnson has 1st round potential at QB. He has more promise and a higher ceiling than Dak does.

You lost a lot of your OL correct? Or some key components of the OL? There is your answer...oh and because it is State. Welcome home to back of the pack. The window of opportunity it has closed for the dawgs.

Literally disagree with all of this. He is still improving. His numbers have improved so drastically each year that it's borderline silly.
And Dak has a hell of a shot to be a first rounder. It's basically a shoutout between him and Boykin. And I seriously doubt Boykin gets a good grade.
Lastly, you're banking on a Gus QB. Cam is literally the only one he's coached that was draftable, and I'm damn sure not giving him much credit for that.

Replacing NR-2 star guys with 4 stars. Hevesey is yet to field a sub par OL, I have no reason to expect that this year with vastly improved talent.

There isn't a coach on the planet who could make Chris Todd, Clint Mosely, Barrett Trotter, Kheil Frazier or Nick Marshall draftable as a QB. GUS is a football coach, not a wizard.
That said he did a hell of a job coaching Chris Todd and Nick Marshall into good college QB's. Look at both those guys QB stats before GUS coached them. Both of them threw more INTs than TDs the year before GUS got to them, and both set passing records at Auburn under GUS.
Jeremy Johnson will be the first QB GUS has recruited out of HS and coached his whole college career. He has an NFL arm and size and has looked damned impressive every time he's played so there's no reason to doubt him.
