Does anyone know what the beef is between Foley and Mullen?

Will Muschamp was fired on or about November 16 of last year. Foley announced it and then like a day later unleashed his media lackeys to make sure Mullen couldn't leverage the job for a raise. The stories that were run said "there is an issue between Foley and Dan that would prevent him from ever coaching here."

What is the issue?

To be clear, I don't think anyone who only follows aggy and doesn't know anything about football would know. I'm asking people who might actually know and are older than 17.

I read about it, but it is best to just move on with life.

Brett McMurphy said he didn't leave on the best terms. I had never heard that until Will got canned. It isn't like he tried to stop Percy Harvin from choking members of the coaching staff or anything. I would have assumed he was still in the circle of trust in Florida.

Pretty sure Foley tried to get Urban to fire him a few times. Mullen's a good coach but he's not an easy person to get along with.

Basically didn't want Mullen to go. Told him he needed a few more years to develop. Mullen went anyways.

That is as logical as anything, but according to most accounts Jeremy Foley likes to help people who come through Gainsville to move up in their profession. So it seems unlikely he would hold Mullen taking a head coach position against him.

mullen probably took it as a slight. figured foley musta thought he was still wet behind the ears or some such.

hunchbacks are notoriously thin skinned, cant tell em anything or they think u disrespectin.

It was a slight. A little
Foley was watching after Mullen. Thought the MSU job would hurt his career.

mullen has it frickin made at state. he should never leave that situation. 4 mil a year to win 7 or 8 games, no pressure. one day everything will click into place and state will put together another great year. i can see mullen doing that.

What was odd was that Foley severely weakened Florida's position in the coaching search by doing that (there is a good SI article on it for those who are interested). He basically wanted to stick it to Mullen so bad he was willing to hurt his coaching search. Doesn't sound like he didn't want Dan to leave and was taking it hard. Sounds like Dan poked him in the eye on the way out.
