Bud Walton arena has a ring of screens around the bottom of the upper deck for advertising and things like little hogs running around from one side all the way around the deck back to where they started. I know my description leaves a lot to be desired, but it occurred to me that this could be very distracting to the players when trying to shoot. They may make an effort to keep from having too much movement on those screens while the teams are playing, but it looked as though the screen would be right behind the basket when shooting from certain spots on the floor, and if there's anything showing at all, it could affect the shot. Do other arenas have this setup?

I don't know about at the college level, but a lot of the NBA teams have the ribbon boards on the facade of the upper seating tier. I would guess that it would be visable through the backboards there. Here in Atlanta the ribbon boards change about every 90 to 120 seconds to ut up a different sponsor logo/ad, and it can seriously go from the dark brown of UPS to the bright orange of Home Depot. I could imagine that it could be distracting especially if you are shooting free throws, but it is so prevelant no one seems to care.

Everything is about making money on the hill now...The only thing the board does for me is add to the headache of another loss at Bud Walton....

I haven't heard any complaints or anything like that. I'm pretty sure they don't even noticed them when they are playing.

That being said... it was millions of dollars to put those in. For what?
