DirecTV, 14 days and counting, will you make it in time?

14 days and counting.
DirecTV is still not on-board. Doesn't look good. They are playing chicken with ESPN/SECN and losing.
AT&T is loving all of this, they win either way at this point.
SEC Revenue is impressive. (1 hr ago)
DirecTV has launched a promise page ... they are desperate:
DirecTV: Our Promise To You (No fan should be sidelined)
In other words ... they're not going to make it in time.

DirecTV has launched a promise page ... they are desperate:
DirecTV: Our Promise To You (No fan should be sidelined)
quote:
We’re in the middle of productive discussions with Disney over ESPN’s new SEC Network and hope to be able to provide it as soon as we possibly can. Both DIRECTV and Disney understand and appreciate the unique bond between SEC teams and the communities they represent, many of which lack any professional teams. We are working cooperatively to ensure that everyone can still see their favorite SEC team play at the most reasonable value to all SEC fans and the rest of our customers throughout the Southeast.
Anyone who pays for TV service should have a choice over what teams they want to follow. And anyone with no interest in sports should not be forced to pay a huge premium for something they don’t care to watch. No matter who provides your TV service, the relentlessly rising price of sports has already caused everyone’s bill for basic TV to more than double over the past decade. In many large cities, the cost for fans to keep the same local teams’ games they’ve always had will double still again between this year and next. Many teams, leagues and conferences will deny their most loyal fans access to games in order to get everyone—whether you’re a fan or not—to pay the soaring price of admission. Every TV viewer should have a choice: Fans should have access to the games they want, and viewers with no interest in sports should not have to pay for what they don’t want.
In other words ... they're not going to make it in time.

Got my parents Comcast and my sisters dish login info. I'm fine with direct.
Posted on 7/30/14 at 1:42 pm to scrooster
I'm surrounded by non directv folks
Getting my discounts this week were well worth it regardless if they get the channel or not

That's a bit condescending. I don't give a shite about professional teams. The SEC is not "the next best thing" to me.

You caught that too. Keyword: "lack"
Plus Dish Network is owned by a SEC fan who started the network with his own sweat.
DirecTV is based outta El Segundo, California, is owned by a bunch of SEC hating left coast liberals who took over the Howard Hughes fortune of companies. It's soon to be owned by an even more left coast liberal company, AT&T.

what did you get? I got a ton last week on Friday to not drop them. All totaled nearly $1000 in bill credits, extra service (Sunday ticket free), and gift cards.
side note: I work in media and there isn't a person I know who earns their living in media who doesn't fully expect Directv to come on board soon.

Forbes (SEC Deal)
quote:
For SEC football, it’s been “go big or go home”…as evidenced by winning seven of the last eight national championships.
On Friday, the conference’s new network also scored a large carriage deal that may open the floodgates for similar deals with America’s biggest cable providers.
The SEC Network landed a long-term carriage deal with Comcast, the country’s biggest distributor. The network will air starting August 14 on Comcast’s expanded basic tier within SEC territory and digital basic outside of it. The Comcast deal pushes SEC Network’s distribution footprint to 46 million homes, including carriage on AT&T, Cox and Dish Network.
In an excellent example of price discrimination, sources say the channel’s rate card is at $1.40 per subscriber per month within the SEC’s 11-state footprint and $0.25 per month outside of it. Nothing like knowing your demographics. The more rabid and passionate the fan base, the greater their demand inelasticity and thus willingness to pay.
Though the goal of the net is to reach 75 million homes upon launch, this goal is likely attainable given that there is a high likelihood that deals will be established with DirecTV and Time Warner Cable within the next month. ( Update: Deal reached between SEC Network and TWC).
What’s interesting to note with this news is the sheer importance of how the size and intensity of consumer demand for your product can impact carriage and fees. For example, DirecTV carries the Big Ten Network (the poster child for successful start-up collegiate sports networks), but not the Pac-12 Network. Furthermore, The Longhorn Network (for the University of Texas) has had carriage issues from its inception.
What to draw from this? First, the intensity of demand for Big Ten and SEC football could be rooted in the fact that their respective fan bases are simply much more passionate towards their teams, which is partially rooted in greater historical success and fan avidity. Cold weather Big Ten schools have fans who are football-crazy, and SEC schools are often located in areas with an absence of pro sports. Pac-12 schools are often in cities with many other recreational pursuits that dampen fan avidity levels relative to the other 2 conferences.
Second, The Longhorn Network likely had an inflated sense of self, has its much harder to secure carriage deals if there is only one school driving the brand. But conference-specific networks have a greater shot at attracting more eyeballs because numerous teams and brands are represented. And at the end of the day, the eyeballs you can attract is what moves ad rates and marketing revenues.

Very pleased. I really do not care one bit about whether I get SECN (only Sunday Ticket and Extra Innings), but I am cashing in on this with my threats to cancel.

Is there a direct number to retentions so I don't have to listen to the regular customer service offer me $5 off for three months?

This buy out can't come quick enough. I am fricking sick and tired of Directv's BS! The only reason I don't make a move is that I have another dish set up at my camp!

So you don't go to the games ... and you're going to leech your game-watching privledges off of your neighbors.
Model fan.
