The rant can and most certainly will judge him before his 3rd year.

The rant judged Lyle and Bert from their 1st season, completely ignoring the fact that both of them inherited complete dumpster fires.

The OP is terrible. USC recruiting was decent under Spurrier, since 2010....24, 18, 19, 16, 16, 19. Spurriers main issue was his complacency with staff hires...he settled for Ward at DC after Ellis Johnson left because it was the easy hire. Ward then brought in his buddy Deke Adams who was a terrible D Line coach. Spurriers was also lazy with the S&C hire again promoting from within. Absolutely, they need help at skill positions which Muschamp addressed very quickly and brought in quality wr and rb recruits. The early returns from the offseason conditioning is how tough the players think it is. That tells me they weren't working hard enough in the weight room to be successful. As far as the program, it's incredibly healthy. It has 5x as many big donors as when Spurrier got here. The facilities have come a long ways and are among the nicest in the SEC. Spurrier just needed to retire after the 2014 season which he himself readily admits.

No. Our #26 ranked recruiting class is the lowest that it has been in some time. Our coaching staff as a whole made some bad calls in regards not to recruiting but the utilization of said talent. For instance, there was talk about moving a player that was playing backup CB over to RB this off season. I admittedly paid a little more attention to this season than most so I looked the guy up. He was a top 15 all purpose back out of high school but for some reason was playing back up CB. Now that could go to speak to your point about us not having the talent that we should and it would, if we didn't sign 3 of the top 20 CB's in the nation the class after him.

Also, in regards to subpar recruiting. The last time that our recruiting class was this low, we walked away with 5 soon to be NFL players including Lattimore and Connor Shaw.

If anyone sets the program back it will be Muschamp . Spurrier done great things at USCe . This thread is a joke.

Tennessee would kill for a "meaningless victory over Alabama"

Who cares? I'm just glad he's gone. Spurrier absolutely owned our arse for 2 decades.

Spurrier made South Carolina relevant.

If he hurt them for a year or 2, oh well.

You just hired a psycho to replace Spurrier, and your program is a fricking disaster.
We have a coach that is starting to peak and is trending up. His marching band days were a long time ago.

Jones coaches circles around that serial killer y'all hired. Muschamp missed of Butch when he lucked out a win against Tennessee, and you never want to piss of an already angry lesbian.

Coaches circles around Muschamp?

Then why did he never beat him?

I think we are getting away from the point of the thread which surprisingly isn't Lyle vs. Muschamp, it is whether the Gamecocks were deprived of relevant talent during the last few recruiting cycles.

I say no, no they were not. Spurrier was an elderly man, but still vastly better than Muschamp and after the excitement of a coaching change dies done USC will wish Spurrier was back.

As has been mentioned, USC's major issue in the sunset of Spurrier's tenure was poor coaching hires and staffing decisions.

There's some talent on the team, as evidenced by some close losses last year. But the rub will be if Muschamp can develop players better than Spurrier's last staff. He'd be hard pressed to do worse.

Actually, it was after the 2014 season that he wanted to retire, and you are correct.
