Did the BCS get it "wrong" this year?

All we heard last year was how the BCS got it "right". They paired the two "best" teams in the national title game.

Notre Dame would lose to at least six teams in the SEC. They're arguably not a top 15 team.

So, did the BCS get it "wrong" this year? Or is this year proof that the rationale we were sold last year was a crock of shite?

Yes, should have been Oregon and Ohio State. Bama backed into another one.

BCS got it right last year in that Alabama was one of the two best teams in the country. They got in wrong in that they in no way deserved to be in that game based on merit as that honor should have been bestowed upon Big 12 Champ Oklahoma State. I guess it sucks to lose to an unranked Iowa State on a Thursday night after your women's bball coach dies in a plane crash

I thought this year that Notre Dame was the only option that the system could put in place. However, I think that Georgia, Oregon, and Stanford were all better teams. Remember, if not for a completely blown call against Notre Dame, Stanford would have been in the Championship Game instead.

Yes. They got it wrong last year as well, but for a different reason. Alabama and LSU were clearly the two best teams from last season. But if not for Iowa State upsetting Oklahoma State, we would have had LSU v Ok St for the title and I imagine the results would have been similar to what we witnessed last night.

So even though last year we watched the two best teams play, it wasn't because of the BCS.

Yeah it was painfully obvious that it should have been Bama-Oregon.

At this point the BCS has gotten the matchup wrong more often than they've gotten it right.

Playoff will help but the system is totally broken. I used to be very anti-playoff but since we decided last season that the regular season is meaningless i say let's go to 16 teams.

This is why last years NC is more enjoyable than this years

deserved

Key word here. Notre Dame "deserved" to be in this title game.

If you look at last year, Stanford "deserved" to be in the title game based on their body of work. Their only loss was to Oregon, a top 5 team. They notched a top 5 road win over USCw.

Here's the difference, genius. Oklahoma State lost a game last year. It was a one-loss team jumping another one-loss team. This year, Notre Dame went undefeated while Oregon lost at home to Stanford. ND earned the right to be in the game. Whether or not they're one of the best teams in the country is an entirely different issue.

It's all subjective. When you get into the top 4 how can you say one team "deserved" to be there over another?

So is it "best" or "most deserving"? because you seem to want to have your cake and eat it too.

But wouldn't Oregon be backing into it as well? They didn't win their conference, afterall.

I'm not angry. I accept that Bama was better than LSU last year. Being "better" means very little under the current system.

I just find it odd that the "eye-ball" test was employed so heavily last year when it was painfully obvious that if the eye ball test had been employed this, Notre Dame would have been in the Independence Bowl.

considering best is determined by rankings I think it's the LSU fans with the issues. This is getting funnier by the day though.

I'm also not arguing for Oklahoma St. I'm one of the few who thought Stanford was the screwed party. I'll accept the rationale that OSU's loss was shitty. However, if we're comparing losses, Stanford only lost to Oregon last year, and they had the most impressive win in @USCw, an AP top 5 team last year, of any of the teams under consideration.

I just find this year to be a blatant hypocrisy of the rationale established for last year's title game.

I'm sure Clemson and Louisville would lose to six SEC teams too.

Simple answer is that it's wrong every year.

Playoffs, not polls.
