he could be remembered as the guy who fired Mark Richt?

Maybe McGarity saw that he would be canned soon for sucking at his job so he figured he'd leave the biggest mark he could on the program and fire a long established winner and great coach. Fire McGarity. Hire Richt.

Holy shite. This is what I get for not checking my sports news or this site since Saturday's great computer crash. (I've been restoring and reinstalling like hell).

UGA panicked when it looked like USCe might make a play for Smart and pulled the trigger. Loved the press conference yesterday...McGarity looked nervous as hell and Richt was cool as a cucumber.

Its Agent McGarity btw....he went to UF and he hates UGA..it was all hush hush but out in the open now. He carries cyanide capsule with him so he cant reveal his higher ups in Gainesville if force is used on him.

Even if Smart took the job at USCe, if Georgia called, he'd come home.

He didn't stutter and we all suspect he's absolutely correct.

Also, big ears could not have done this to Richt without approval from higher up.

I agree. Seems that would have been the smarter move. Let Smart show that he can handle an SEC program as HC before you hand over the reins.

Smart doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would accept a HC position at USCe only to coach there for 2-3 years and jump to UGA if Richt was released on down the line. He has been incredibly loyal to Saban and I think he would show the same loyalty to USCe.

Its incredibly easy to remain loyal when there is a chance to put a ring on your finger every year. Loyalty shows when shite hits the fan.

He graduated from UGA but I'm still pretty sure he hates UGA also.

Tend to agree. Personally, I would have kept Richt to see what happened through this next recruiting class with Eason since obviously our admins have no intention of paying big bucks for a big name coach. If Smart wants to take the job at SC, then so be it. I'm just not excited about UGA being another on the job training ground for another coordinator.

I believe there is some truth to this. When USCe looked serious about getting Kirby, the boosters didn't want to see one of our own become HC at another SEC school. I still believe the decision to can Richt was made after the UF game, but I do believe our eyes have been fixed on Kirby for a while.
