This probably isn't the right time to be asking this. I know everyone is focused on making sure he's going to be fine. But I'm sitting here feeling sick to my stomach about the work he put in and it being taken away like that. And I'm a die hard LSU fan.

I know Mcgahee had an insurance policy for that year he tore his knee up and most players who are projected in the first round.

This sick feeling in my stomach will ease up a bit knowing that he did.

Players literally have an insurance policy? How much can they get insured for?

Typically future pro guys can get policies that cover them in case of injury. I know Michael Bush at Louisville had one when he returned for his Senior season and broke his leg in the UK game.

I believe Mcgahee took out a policy for 2 mill if he got injured his last year and never played a down in the NFL.

There was a QB decade or so ago who came back and his arm alone was insured for $5 mil.

Yes. Usually taken out by guys who are locks to be a high draft pick before their junior or senior season. They can get a few million, but it's typically predicated on never signing an NFL contract or something.

Lattimore definitely had a policy. I believe the school takes out the policy on the players' behalf.

Good, I feel better knowing that if his career is over, he can walk away with a few million.

I don't know the how it all actually works, but I can't imagine any insurance company would have given a policy for much for a guy coming off of major knee surgery.

I'm sure the previously injured knee would payout a lot less.. I have no idea though, just guessing.

I'm sure it has provisions for re-injury vs a different knee. And I'm sure he has one.

Here's an article from 2009 about college player insurance policies.

Tebow got one when he came back for his senior year.

Wouldn't that be an extra benefit or something? You'd think the player would have to do it.
