When Lane Kiffin left Tennessee after one year, there was a feeling among many people that he left the program high and dry and walked out on a commitment. (Of course, not everyone felt that way, but many did, particularly Vols).

I have to think that one of the main considerations of Applewhite over Kiffin is that Applewhite, having strong Texas roots, is far more likely to spend longer at Houston than Kiffin would. And that is accentuated by the fact that Kiffin left Tennessee so suddenly to go to USC.

Some people would say this is naive thinking...but I imagine there are quite a few Tennessee fans that feel vindicated today, and that poetic justice was served.

We are talking about Kiffin here.. he lands in a puddle & walks out with fish in his pockets.

He'll likely end up with a better gig than UH.

The Major loves himself big, chunky Mexican chicks.

Plenty of that to go around at Cougar High. Plenty .

I don't think so at all.
I believe that UH wanted LK, but wanted a very large buyout ( which has been reported will be part of Major's deal) and kiffin's agent said Hell no.
And I don't blame him.

Houston was wanting a major buyout from Kiffin and Kiffin was budging on it. Houston made a Major (pun intended) mistake not hiring Kiffin or Orlando.

UH PTB don't think enough of Applewhite to even name him interim HC for the bowl game but then turn around and name him the HC.
They don't want to be seen as a stepping stone BUT that is exactly what they are and will continue to be until they go into a Power 5 or we go Super Conferences.
It will be hilarious to come back and see these same dipschitts that hired Applewhite, turning around and firing him 2 years later.

Yeah, well, that's Tennessee fans for you. It was his first HC interview. If Kiffin still doesn't have a HC job in two years, they'll be vindicated.

After what Kiffin did to UT, I hope he never gets another HC gig. He's a spoiled prick who will frick over a program faster than Petrino would.

Do good things and good things happen. Do bad things and bad things happen. This message has been vouchsafed by Earl Hickey himself.

Also, karma doesn't actually work like that except in the minds of 21st century Americans who learned everything they know about other religions from yoga instructors at high-end gyms.

This, most likely, is what will happen. I suspect his next HC gig will be at a lower-tier Power 5 school.

Probably worked out best for all concerned. Applewhite will likely give Houston more years of service and Kiffin obviously will be coaching in the playoff anyway. I would not be surprised to see Kiffin as HC at one the West Coast schools (again) or taking another pro football gig. In the mean time he's learning a proven system under Saban.

What's up with that? Are you dating your yoga instructor?

Did I hurt your feelsie-weelsies?

Just making an observation. I'm sure the OP didn't take it nearly as personally as you did.

When Kiffin told them that he wanted the ability to take the VOLS job when it opens, they turned him down. Shame

Likewise. You're one of the good ones, which is why I didn't hesitate to post my reply.

Too bad Freshwater couldn't get the USF job. Coeds there would be right up his alley. He probably wouldn't have lasted a year on the job, though.
