Sounds like that old sly Indian worked Sumlin and the Aggies over
quote:

Based on what we learned early Wednesday evening, we were told that barring unforeseen circumstances we expected former Florida defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin to assume the same role at Texas A&M and former Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison to join the A&M staff in some capacity. At that point in time, A&M was preparing the paperwork for its eventual submission to the board of regents which included a buyout of an existing A&M contract and details on apparently incorporating Mattison into the staff.
However, during this time, A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin was under the impression that he had a shot at landing veteran LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis. As a result, Sumlin not make a move on Durkin at that time, a decision that would have gut wrenching consequences for the A&M program.
A&M was considered the leader for five star Mesquite Poteet Malik Jefferson who was making a decision today. Jefferson had in home visits from Texas and UCLA last week in addition to taking an official visit to UCLA. Both schools probably took the opportunity to hammer A&M about its lack of a defensive coordinator which raised a significant question about the Aggies in Jefferson’s mind.

I think that Chavis is probably reaching out to teams in case Miles takes the Michigan job, but he would never come to A&M.

They find a way to blame everything on Chavis

Damn, what does that say about Chavis' confidence in Miles staying at LSU that he would even entertain that?

This is the worst thing we found out all day. The fact that Sumlin didn't see what was being pulled on him is ridiculous.

He is not going to make it past next season barring a miracle.

Not buying this story one bit.

What do we know about Chief?

He's probably the most loyal coach in the county west of Blacksburg.

He's been the DC for two head coaches in the last 20 years, or around that number.

He has never sought out seeking a head coaching gig during that time, and I don't know why he would seek out a lower-tier job than what he has at LSU.

I can't see chief doing this. He doesn't like recruiting and is a straight shooter. This just isn't his MO.

Now, if you would have named other guys, I'd believe it .

Going out on a limb, but I'm guessing he didn't entertain it.

If he didn't go to Georgia or Texas, he's not going to A&M under any circumstances

Chavis will go to A&M if they do $2Mil per for 4-5 years.

A&M could afford it easily too.
