It's true that ESPN and tu both wanted to broadcast high school sports, but it was never believed that A&M being on board was going to be a prerequisite, nor did ESPN throw money at tu solely for high school football. ESPN overbid because that's how the operated because at the time they accounted for half of Disney's profits.
