LINK

Main highlight is going from $2 mill base to $3.1 mill and increasing the Asst Coaching pool salaries from $2.7 mill to $3.4 mil. Some additional incentives as well. Sounds like a contract designed to be upped again if he performs this year.

Wow, that's still a bargain comparatively.

Looking at you Mack Brown.

How does A&M feel about losing Klingsbury? I was surprised he left being so young but felt like he had the makings of a rare talent

I don't understand why or how Texas does not dominate college football. It's like they care but don't care that much about being the best.

I was concerned but after how we played at the Cotton Bowl I'm not concerned anymore.

That was the best called game we had all year; we seemed to have a lot more designed runs ( that worked well) and they played with a crisp cadence.

I hope to see more of the same in 2013.

...and no ill will to KK. that's a great opportunity, and he's their favorite son. That should buy him time to build what he is wanting.

I honestly don't think we'll miss a beat, offensively.

I think everyone knew it would happen as soon as Tubs retired or moved on. We just didn't expect it to be THIS year.

I felt good about Randy Sanders being the OC coming off the 1998 national title.

Not worried about losing Kingsbury, Sumlin is the real brain behind the offense and McKinney called a great game in the Cotton. Expect more running out of A&M next year with more creative usage of JFF and the stable of RB's and less short yardage passing. In the end Kliff was a rising star but still only a couple of years removed from being a Quality Control guy. I can't believe Tech is paying him $2 million considering how little real experience he has, certainly A&M wasn't going to try and match that for an OC.

The only guy that would have made me really pucker up if we lost him is Snyder. His defense last year when you consider the talent he had to work with and esp the lack of depth was amazing. JFF gets all the press for the Bama game but the defense is what really won it by shutting down Bama early and creating turnovers on 2 plays that they confused McCarron with their coverage (something very few teams were able to do). The offense has elite talent but the defense does not, though the recruiting is fixing that it isn't there yet. Snyder got a lot of 3 Stars to play like 4 and 5 Stars.

It's a solid contract all around. It's a significant raise for Sumlin and essentially puts him in the right category for SEC coaches that have yet to win a NC. It's a contract designed to be upped again based on performance. He wins a Natty next year and he will go well North of $4 mill.

Just don't put a 11$million dollar buyout on him. Words of advice to the new SEC schools

Also, solid/aggressive tackling forced Yeldon's fumble in that game.

That unit as a whole was supposed to be the Aggies' achilles heel, but they stepped up to the plate all season long and kept A&M in games whenever the offense sputtered (see the UF and LSU games), and outright won them when it needed to (Ole Miss, Bama).

This will be the one that backfires on Hyman. And you can bet, now that Hyman got more money to keep the coach, he'll take credit for hiring him, for any big wins, and Hyman himself will be asking for more money soon ... in what, his second or third year max?

One of the most impressive stats for me was that after the Ole Miss game A&M did not allow a single point in the first quarter of a game until OU kicked a FG. That was huge because it allowed A&M to jump up on opponents and run away in most cases building up huge leads quickly. That's coaching and preparation. A&M did give up a lot of 2nd half points but much of it was when the reserves were in or in the case of La Tech we simply were gassed because we were missing 3 key defensive players and had no depth in a game that lasted 5 hours. Getting those early defensive stops avoided getting in to shootouts.

The offense will get all the praise because of the gaudy stats and highlight reel stuff but the coaching job on the D was more impressive imo.

I don't know how this contract backfires on Hyman. A&M absolutely cannot afford to lose Sumlin and they aren't overpaying him.

Hyman has been VERY low key compared to his predecessor Byrne. If there was one guy that loved to take credit for everything it was Dollar Bill. He did a solid job but he was a serious egomaniac that could give Dodds a run for his money when he wanted to. I'm pleased so far with Hyman but he hasn't had to hire a coach yet in any sport and his legacy is going to be how the Kyle rebuild is handled as well as his ability to get every facility up to elite SEC standards. Sumlin was on board before him so he can't really take credit there but if he keeps him that will be enough to make me happy.

Great question. Sumlin has had no success with other QBs, so he'll probably drop to .500 ball at best once Johnny leaves. Sure, there was that 11-1 season at Houston, but that was just because of the great Case Keenum, who is sure to be selected to play in multiple pro bowls, if he can just get a team to put him on the roster.

It was called well but I don't think it was the best called game of the year.

Plus the OU defense was pretty bad by the end of the season so its not like it was a shock that our offense shredded them.

Losing KK sucks no doubt. Love or hate his style, he was a huge part of the swagger we had going.

It really sucks that the Tech job opened up b/c I don't think he would have left for anywhere else so early in his career.
