One was extra benefits (ie a house)
The other was a coach talking to a player when he wasn't supposed to.

One involved a wanna-be sports agent with no connection to the school whatsover paying Bush's parents rent (he didn't buy them a house ) so that Bush would LEAVE school and sign with him
The othér was a coach breaking recruiting rules to try to get the player to come to school.

HUGE difference, I agree.

Look, I'm not dumb enough to think I'm going to change anybody's mind on this, especially on an SEC message board; I've said my peace and now I'm gonna enjoy some Glenmorangie in the beautiful weather before Game of Thrones starts. Really looking forward to playing y'all in September. Gonna be a helluva game. :

Bush was about life style and finances. Anyone who came in contact with the program could see that Bush was living far above his means.
This thing with Davis has nothing to do with lifestyles or living above your means.

Had forgotten about that, and also did not realize there were wins that had to be vacated. Guess I know the answer, but did you guys have to vacate the Jan 9th game against LSU? Hey, can always wish, correct?

Dude, that's a ridiculous statement. What does that even mean? The guy was from San Diego; not exactly College Park or Watts. Okay, for real this time. Later!

Agreed, that's why he got canned. Saban demands his guys follow the letter of the law, he failed to do so.

In announcing the penalties, the NCAA Committee on Infractions issued a stern warning to Alabama, which has been before it three times since 1995: Do not, under any circumstances, come before us again.

"God forbid if there is another appearance," said Thomas E. Yeager, the chairman of the committee and the commissioner of the Colonial Athletic Association. "If they do, I don't know what's left."

The only thing that kept Alabama from the death penalty, said Yeager, was the way in which its compliance staff responded to the NCAA's charges.

"There is no question that Alabama was staring down the barrel of a gun," said Yeager. "Had there been a different approach, there was a clear legislative opportunity to impose the death penalty."

Alabama immediately said it will appeal the ruling, a process that could take more than six months, to provide a final resolution of the case.

Alabama president Andrew Sorenson and athletics director Mal Moore said they were "extremely disappointed" in the NCAA's decision. Both read statements to the media but would not discuss the basis for Alabama's appeal.

Alabama was charged with 16 rules violations, 11 of them major. But the penalties were almost exclusively the result of the activities of three Alabama boosters.

Logan Young of Memphis, Tenn., whose ties with Alabama go back to the Bear Bryant era, was accused of giving a high school coach $100,000 and a sport utility vehicle to persuade defensive tackle Albert Means to sign with the Crimson Tide. Means did sign with Alabama but transferred to Memphis.

So it boils down to Davis going on visits when he wasn't supposed to, the NCAA finding out, Bama deciding they couldn't accept a commitment from those recruits, all ending with Davis taking the fall and "lying" to the NCAA? I really don't care regardless, but I'd say that's about how it played out.

That time in our history was long ago.
This day and age is not about cheating it's about winning.
You know Coach Saban would never do anything unethical or against the rules of the NCAA.
You seem upset and just a little bit jelly.
Have a good nite.

Over what? Because Coach Davis was termed? I already posted that I was disappointed in learning of his termination, but would not go as far as to say my heart was broken

Yeah, but all of that was proved to be false allegations.
