The NCAA is doing a "holistic" look at NCAA football staff sizes. Here's how the SEC shakes out.
1. Georgia 42
2. Auburn 41
3. Arkansas 36
4. South Carolina 34
5. Florida 33
6. Mississippi State 32
7. Alabama 31
8. Mississippi 31
9. Missouri 31
10. LSU 27
11. Kentucky 26
12. Vanderbilt 25
13. Tennessee 18

Prior to this NCAA study, Alabama was said to have 97.

That link is very selective, leaving out some key quotes that are included in other articles. Such as this one from CBS Sports:
Obviously this survey is not very well put together. They underestimated Bama's S&C department by 400%.

Now for some perspective: Notre Dame's number – obtained via a preliminary look at the NCAA's next big dig down on outsized college football ambitions -- should definitely be taken with a grain of salt.
"Six or seven grains of salt," said Bob Bowlsby

Alabama is credited with a total staff size of 31. According to the survey, that would tie Missouri and Ole Miss for sixth in the SEC and tie for 28th nationally.
The Crimson Tide are credited with just one strength and conditioning staff member. A quick check of Alabama's own website shows the program employs the NCAA maximum five strength coaches.
Obviously this survey is not very well put together. They underestimated Bama's S&C department by 400%.

Seems legit

Wrangling over 5-10 positions that should or should not count is a far cry from claiming Alabama has nearly 100 staff members.

No one knows what the number is. It may be 35... it may be 100.
But if you are basing your opinion on a survey that credited Bama with 1 S&C coach when they have 5, you are obviously putting stock into something that is wildly inaccurate. If they missed 400% of the S&C coaches, how many other unofficial coaches / ops guys did they also miss?
Bottom line is that this survey is completely useless.

Everyone knows Nick Saban makes sure all of his behind the scenes helpers are listed on the official athletic website. Of course he makes sure it stays up to date so that everyone in the general public knows his business.

A 400% margin of error does seem a bit... flawed... for a survey.

Frankly, I'm not too worried rather it's 35 or 100. Whatever works. But some people get really worked up over the "shadow staff".

People on this website need to understand how percentages work. They 'missed' 80% of the S&C coaches if, in fact, they have 5 and only reported 1. As in 5 exist, they 'missed' 4, 4 out of 5 is 80%.
You can't 'miss' 400% of something. Once you miss 100% of something you have missed it all, entirely. You could say that the S&C staff that was not reported represented a 400% increase over what was reported.
With that said, I hope Bama actually has 200 people on its support staff so we can keep hearing all the whining from these poor, pitiful schools (in the SEC mind you) who can't afford to keep up with mean ol' Bama

No. It doesn't.

Fine. Then say that Bama has 400% more S&C coaches than this survey credited them with. The survey said 1 S&C coach. Bama's on website says 5.
