How is this guy coaching at Vandy? I think he may be the 2nd best coach in the conference.

He's got things headed the right way, but he needs to show a lot more than 6-7. Franklin won 9 games at Vandy in the two years before he took over.

I hope we hire him as DC when Vandy fires him.

I like Derek Mason, but he makes so many in game coaching mistakes. It just doesn't get the same criticism as a coach like Smart or Strong because he's at Vandy.

He gets a pass because he is at Vandy and wins some games at the end of the year, and everyone crowns him when they sneak up on Tenn or UGA. His teams always look awful to start the season.

Watch some video of him talking football Xs and Os. The guy is a football genius. While the D coordinator at Stanford, he would give seminars for NFL coaches. Seriously.
From a football knowledge standpoint, I'd say Saban, Mullen and Mason are the best 3 in the conference.
Mason really has the opportunity to be the best Vandy coach of the modern era. Players and fans love the man. watch the end of last year's UT game. How could anyone, other than a UT fan, not like this guy. Our recruiting this year is off the charts for us as well.
We have a real tough schedule thru early October, other than that I think it can be a great year for us.
