He's the ineffective failure who spends all of his time trying to convince people he is tough and savvy. Muschamp is Sonny, the hothead whose temper and lack of self control will ultimately be his demise. Kirby Smart is Michael, the brilliant son who will eventually carry the Don's legacy forward.

i dont buy that whole saban coaching tree thing. it's gotten guys some choice jobs, but hasnt exactly led to much success for them.
that said, nice analogy.

If Fisher ever actually wins anything at FSU, I can buy that.

Nice analogy, but I don't think it will hold true if Kirby takes the Ole Miss job

Don Vito Corleone = Bill Belichick
Sonny Corleone = Will Muschamp
Fredo Corleone = Derek Dooley
Michael Corleone = Nick Saban
Tom Hagen = Jimbo Fisher
Connie Corleone = ??
Sonny Corleone = Will Muschamp

This is cool and all, but what has he done other than coach under Saban?

Not sure.
I really hate to say this:
All those people that say these guys were just GA assistants, and it was really Saban's defense are turning out more right by the day. Except Fisher of course.
FWIW I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I think most realistic people knew this. It was part of the debate earlier in the year when AUs defense was sucking. People would point at Chizik and say "he's a defensive coach, why is Roof being blamed for the defensive problems. If Alabama had defensive struggles you know damn well everyone would blame Saban straight up."
I think everyone just hoped that Saban DCs were decent coordinators and then they learned under Saban and became great coordinators. As you said, it hasn't really turned out that way thus far. Kirby Smart really could be awesome, but he hasn't done anything to prove it and the past examples don't indicate a positive trend.
