Defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan will not return, per GatorCountry.

GatorCountry

quote:

First year defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan will not be returning to the Florida Gators staff effective immediately. After just one year on the job, Jim McElwain has decided to move in a different direction at the position. McElwain will meet with his team on Friday to make them aware of the staff change.

“We are making a change on our staff,” McElwain said in a release from the University. “Moving forward Kirk Callahan will be looking at some other opportunities and he has a long career ahead of him.”

Callahan was a graduate assistant at Florida from 2010-11 before being hired by his alma mater, the University of Central Florida. Callahan played defensive back at UCF from 2003-2006 and served as a graduate assistant in 2007, before moving on to North Carolina for two seasons as a graduate assistant as well.

With just three weekends until National Signing Day, the Gators have not decided on a replacement for Callahan.

Bad recruiter. Mac's decision.

I like it. Don't settle when you can make an upgrade in the staff.

There was some speculation Mac was going to make this change, some others may happen as well.

Frick yes. He's a solid coach, but was really underwhelming on the recruiting trail. Wonder who we'll go after.

Horseteeth is already admitting he made a mistake after one year. Will probably be a common theme.

He was brought in to lockdown the Tampa area as his dad is the Coach at Armwood Seffner.

He effed up a last minute attempt in securing Byron Cowart, messed up with NCM and Jayvaughn Myers and hasn't really done a good job recruiting.

Not a bad coach, but for what he provides in recruiting he was highly expendable

If Callahan was not brought in to secure Cowart. Callahan's dad had stepped away from being involved with Cowart's recruitment. It was a toxic relationship at the end.

Agree with everything else.
