UGA fans, why hasn't UGA retired the number 14? David Greene was the leader of one of the most successful periods in UGA's history, and had the NCAA record for most wins by a starter when he graduated. Greene was a hell of a player, and I always thought that he should be honored at UGA way more than he has been.

He got in and out quietly (no off the field noise). Did his work and was very productive. He should get more accolades.

He had a play-action fake, I want to say it was against Vanderbilt, that was the most beautiful fake I've ever seen. He faked the entire crowd and all the cameras out and threw a touchdown pass. No one knew he had the ball until he reared back to throw it. The receiver was wide open.

UGA ran that play about once a year under Richt. Greene was incredible at it.

He took his life into his own hands running that play. He always turned his back to the line of scrimmage but it worked every time.

Greene play fake

To answer the OP, Greene was a very good QB but not "retired jersey" level. Let's be honest... he wasn't even the best David on the team.

14 and 47 should be retired. I was in middle school during that time. Greene was my favorite player..(this was before I saw the light and became a Tech fan)

Murray ran the exact same fake perfectly against Ole Miss in 2012.

LINK

It's such a beautiful and hilarious play.

As far as Greene goes, I think he's not as celebrated as he would have been otherwise because he came in the middle of a run of great QBs at Georgia.

Over 20 years we had Zeier, Greene, Shockley, Stafford and Murray. Never forget, Zeier owned every school record before Greene came along, and Murray actually owns all of those records now.

There was a recent thread about Eason that had a lot of talk about previous Georgia qb's.

Maybe it was just us, but based on how your qb's played against South Carolina, I think Greene and Zeier were the best ones.

Shockley... geez he really only played one year right? I barely remember that guy. Didn't show out against us at least. Not sure how many years Hines Ward started but I remember him a lot better.

As an aside you guys are nuts going with all these pocket qb's like Eason with all the incredible athletes Georgia puts out every year.

I tend to forget though, it's not real football unless you pass out of the pocket and have a lead blocker. And I formation. Lots of I formation.

Anyway, he finally beat us as a senior, but I was actually a bit miffed the last game Murray played aginst us. He basically made key mistakes in the previous games he played against us that lead to us winning the game. I kept waiting and waiting for him to do it again that last game, but it never happened.

He was like Tajh Boyd at Clemson in that regard.

Retiring jerseys is silly. Teams like Michigan don't even have enough numbers left available and have to do that dumb patch thing.

Shockley was first team all sec and sec championship MVP his 1 year as starter. He was a great QB for us in 2005.

I always thought it was cooler to have it be an honor for a current player to wear a legend's number. Have it be passed down.

Well, you know what? You should've been miffed. Let's not forget that Murray is the all-time record leader in passing and total offense in SEC history.

Speaking of records, I don't think Greyson Lambert's has been broken either.

Not this crap again. For the third time, Go back and look at how Greene played in 2001 and 2002 vs sc.

I have a better idea.

Fill me in.

Give me a box score, passing stats, key mistakes Greene made.

I remember him playing very well (for what seemed like forever) against us.

Make yourself useful. I demand a more informative brand of troll.

This would be nice too..I was somewhat pissed off when Joe Cox or Joe T (I cant remember which one it was) was allowed to wear #14

Joe Cox and then Hutson Mason. Bobo wore 14, too.

The only numbers that should stay retired are Frank Sinkwich's 21 and Herschel's 34.

That site has career box score stats for all three players over their career.

Murray's stats look better than I remembered. But despite that he was a big part of Georgia losing 3 straight to us. Still remember people saying "Come on Aaaron."

You claim murray won you the 2011 game and fail to mention that we would've lost by 3 touchdowns without him.

You do know those weren't the only games he played in his career right? Why have you decided that those are the only games that matter in his time at Georgia?
