What are your thoughts? I'm torn.

Advantages
-Great practice for your players.
-Can get some conifidence going in the 1st part of the season for young guys.
-Provides funds to small schools.

Disadvantages
-Nothing worse than seeing great players get hurt in a meaningless contest.
-BORING!!! Small crowds etc.
-Really hard to gain any sense of where your team is after the game.

Oh yeah. I know we lost to Georgia Southern so here's a preemtive EAD, GFY, burn in hell.

**ETA**
Graduate level question:

What's the answer? More conference games? More tough out of conference games? Then what about the shitty conferences that get a cake walk schedule all year and have an easier road to the playoff? How will smaller programs make up for that lack of revenue? Will they ever be able to compete if they can't grow?

If your team is on the young side, it's not a bad thing.

It depends on what kind of cupcakes they are.

Hate

I mean, frick. It was awesome opening vs Oregon, Wisconsin, TCU, etc

I'm pumped for this Saturday but it still feels like I'm another week out from the true excitement.

Although I do think Harris and our other sophomores will benefit from a "scrimmage."

They are boring for sure.

But still, if it's the first game of the season, it's a good way to ease everyone (esp. the freshmen) into the rhythm of gameday.

I'm sure South Carolina wishes they'd had a cupcake last year to iron out the wrinkles before A&M came to town.

I like having 1 a year and early in the season. Preferably a team from Louisiana to help the programs in the state. Playing 3-4 a year is ridiculous. I'd rather play 9 conference games too but doubt we will ever see that.

It may be an unpopular position, but they don't bother me that much

They're a necessary evil

I dislike them as a football fan but realize they are needed for: player development for young guys, breathers for guys that are banged up, and record boosters that allow you to stay alive in the bowl/playoff hunt. You can't play 12 good teams and expect to make the playoffs

I think this year our OOC schedule is pretty good for a new coach. Start with a cupcake, then step it up a bit with ECU before SEC play. Then end the year with FAU before FSU. No FCS opponents and FAU will bring fans.

Hate. Although admittedly it is much better now that we can all watch the games on tv, and in HD to boot.

Also, I don't mind a cupcake game on a stacked weekend if it doesn't conflict. It's nice to get your win out of the way, see some young players that you're excited about, then move on to some big matchups (without worrying about getting an L).

I'm fine with it this year because we're breaking in a new qb and it will shake the rust off these guys. Next year I'm happy they play a P5 school

That's the truth. Last time FAU came to town their fans were great to hang with.

And hot...
