Creighton and Louisville do not own their arenas. They are municipal.

So, we are talking apples to oranges.

Good, but it still wouldn't make it right if the cost indeed were way above what should have been paid to build.

The Century Link Center is enormous. The Basketball Arena is the smallest section of the building. They hold the largest 4-H stock show in the nation there and the show area is 100 yds by 100 yds under roof.

Older than I realized. Looks cool from TV

It does look awesome on TV. I love the quirky architecture of it. Some of the seating below the floor. The columns in the corners. The view of the upper bowl. I've always liked that place. I want to go to a game there sometime.

What? It cost $55 million to build. The majority of the cost back then went into many projects connected to the arena. First, they had to pay a bunch of families for their property. They also added the Opera Theater...Lexington Arts Center...Hyatt Hotel...and the Lexington Covention Center. Money well spent considering Rupp holds the State Sweet 16 (huge revenue annually)...multiple NCAA Tournament Games....men's and women's Final Fours...and let's not forget the Kentucky home games... if was not for Rupp Arena, downtown Lexington would be dead.

Actually, no

Triangle Center is basically Rupp, Opera House, and Triangle Park

Shopping center, convention center, and Hyatt were part of the old Stearns Company

Lease with UK is so cheap, very little debt has been paid down as most just goes to pay the interest. Think of it a balloon note where every time they update they roll the old debt forward. The old AHL team actually made much more for Rupp (venue and bondholders) than UK.

Best thing they ever did was build the off campus arena as it is foolish to build most of these single use venues (like Commonwealth Stadium) that can not service debt when only used 5 - 10 days in a 365 year cycle.

Say what you will about JerryWorld but I think they operate on 300 to 360 days a year which helps pay down the debt. Sports venues are just white elephants born on the taxpayers who may never attend an event their taxes pay for.

Billionaire owners and non profit state universities are the least needy when it comes to taxpayer subsidies.

I hope CFB stadiums don't go the way of Basketball arenas and NFL stadiums and start adding corporate sponsors to their names.

So the Hump was built for $6,000,000 in 1973. I wonder how many improvements have been made. Inflation adjustments so it is $33,000,000 in today's numbers.

Renovation has hurt UF IMO, place has not looked nearly as intimidating when I have seen it on TV.

If going by the Vandy game, it was not nearly as loud as it has been in the past. The poor play took the crowd out early, but it's been pretty close to old in some of the other games.

Bama's basketball team deserves the dump it plays in.

Sorry, we aren't going to spend 100 million dollars to build a palace to watch you struggle to put away Sam Houston State.

I don't expect a national title or even a top 10 program, I do expect to regularly qualify for the 68 freaking team tournament though. Is that really so much to ask? Lots of smaller schools with lower budgets can manage somehow. Hell we used to ourselves.

We spent more than that to build end zone additions on Bryant Denny as we struggled to put away teams like Hawaii and failed to put away Northern Illinois and ULM.

Know why? Because we knew it would help us attract recruits and maybe even a coach. Without it, and the other additions during the miserable years, we would not have hired Nick Saban.

Doesn't explain why there are many programs with worse arenas and far lower athletic budgets consistently fielding better b-ball teams than us.

Would a fancy new arena help? Couldn't hurt. Probably not worth the investment though, until the basketball program shows some feint signs of life.

Who, exactly? Honest question. There aren't many schools in college basketball left at the big conference level with an arena like ours.

Virginia Tech, Kansas State maybe, Arizona State, Texas, Baylor, Minnesota, West Virginia, Northwestern......Iowa maybe?

Clemson just totally rebuilt their arena. Ole Miss has a new arena. Missouri has a relatively new arena. Auburn has a new arena. Nebraska has a new arena. Oregon has a new arena. USC has a relatively new arena. Virginia has a relatively new arena. Miami, NC State, Texas Tech, Michigan, Penn State, etc.

Please tell me the numbers on the PMAC are a typo. PLEASE.

I'm not sure LSU ever gets what if actually pays for regarding facilities. The fact it spent 40 mill on Alex box and has bleachers should tell you enough.

Off the op of my head it was renovated in early 2000s and then again recently when they added the Mize pavilion.
