Maryland's Counter-Claim

I'd say Count 4 has the most interesting stuff regarding realignment.

However, don't like paragraph 109.

But if you're interested in ACC's position, they seem to have an interest in leaving the conference overall. Interesting, but not sure if it could kick off more realignment.

After reading that, the ACC should be paying UF to replace FSU and drop FSU to the SEC.

Dayum...

"Upon information and belief and as reflected in the ACC's competitive market analysis study, the average U.S. News ranking of conference member institutions of the ACC and the Big Ten is much superior to that of the SEC. Upon information and belief, graduation rates at the SEC member institutions fall well behind the graduation rates for Big Ten and ACC schools. Further, SEC members are more defined by the strength of their emphasis on football programs and include no natural rivalries with Maryland..."

Seems counter-intuitive to me that graduation rates are so much lower has anything to do with the quality of the school. If SEC schools were so easy, then you'd think far more kids would graduate not fewer. Off the top of my head, I would guess the graduation rates have far more to do with laxer admission standards as Southern states are more willing to let a kid go to school and weed them out their freshman and sophomore years.

That said, we never wanted Maryland anyway. West Virginia was a possibility, Florida State said no in the past and the teams we've added so far are fine additions.

If I ever got into a recruiting battle with Maryland as a coach the first thing I would do is show paragraph 109. "Look kid, even though don't think they can compete in football."

RE: graduation rates.

I think there should be light she'd on lower performing numbers. If we can all agree that this whole mechanation runs on football, should good teams/good players be penalized for having Juniors declare and earn millions in the NFL?

Now if they rob a quickie mart, then count it as a black eye and move on.

I just can't fault a guy for getting the maximum amount of dollars he is worth. All players have a limited shelf life.

Maryland we don't think we should penalized.

We're too smart for the SEC.

I laugh at paragraph 109. It's basically Maryland's way of attempting to spin the fact that they would be a doormat in nearly every sport if they attempted to join the SEC.

No, it might just change how much they pay. At this point I could see it going either way.

On one hand the ACC could want them to pay to prove that the exit fee has teeth in the post-GOR period. The issue there is- will $50 million even be enough to stop a program in 10 years?

On the other hand, the ACC looks like it is upgrading with UL and they probably want to just move on into the future now that this case will no longer determine the stability of the league.

I think the ACC settles, but in a way that the fee still matters going forward. A "well you got away with it THIS time."

Timeline is wrong on Georgia Tech joining the ACC. They left the SEC before South Carolina left the ACC.

What's hilarous?

The ACC's newest member is ranked BELOW the worst SEC member on USNWR. Spin THAT, ACC!

Yup.

That's all this is. Negotiating the price of freedom.

Of course, the SEC allows any team to leave at any time with no exit fee.

Upon further review, Maryland is a PERFECT fit for the Big Ten.

Shitty football - check
Overrated basketball - check
nearly nonexistent baseball - check
too much emphasis in rich kid sports (lacrosse, etc) - check
Arrogant and smug - check
Thinks they're better than they actually are - check

Vandy, Florida, and Georgia show up before Maryland on the US News ranking.

Guess they don't belong either.
