Among SEC programs.... only streaks of 5 consecutive seasons or more are listed:

12 seasons- Florida 1990-2001
12 seasons- Georgia 1997-2008

11 seasons- Alabama 1971-1981
11 seasons- Tennessee 1989-1999

10 seasons- Alabama 1959-1968

8 seasons- Alabama 2008-current

7 seasons- Ole Miss 1957-1963
7 seasons- Tennessee 1967-1974
7 seasons- Texas A&M 1989-1995

6 seasons- Alabama 1991-1996
6 seasons- LSU 1968-1973

5 seasons- LSU 2003-2007
5 seasons- Florida 2005-2009
5 seasons- Tennessee 1938-1942
5 seasons- Auburn 1986-1990
5 seasons- LSU 2009-2013
5 seasons- Auburn 1968-1972
5 seasons- Auburn 1993-1997

Pretty surprising that a Jim Donnan/Mark Richt combo could pull off 12 consecutive seasons of finishing ranked in the Top 25.

The other coaches that were responsible for 8+ season streaks: Spurrier, Bryant (2x), Fulmer, & Saban. Yeah, like I said, kind of surprising that Donnan/Richt pulled that off.

Why is that surprising?

all depends on who Alabama hires after Saban. Saban, unless something crazy happens, will beat it before he retires. But torching it will depend on who they hire. I doubt anyone thought Florida would finish unranked the year after Spurrier left. He left Zook a machine. Kind of surprising Tennessee finished unranked in 2000 considering how good they were in 1999 and 2001. I guess what I'm saying is, anything can happen. It's not outside the realm of possibilities Alabama finishes something like 8-4 after Saban leaves and is unranked

I loved Richt more than most Georgia fans, but even I'm a bit surprised to see the streak made it 12-plus seasons. Not even Bryant, Dooley, Vaught, etc. had a streak that long.... but to throw Jim Donnan in there even makes it more surprising.

Pretty impressive that Richt was able to come in and not drop the baton. I would bet in the history of all of college football, very few head coaches were able to come in and produce Top 25 teams in each of his first 3 seasons... Richt was able to do it in his first 8.

From what I remember, Donnan was actually a great recruiter and had the talent. Georgia is one of the better jobs after all (even Ray Goof had a 10 win season back when that really meant something).

If this is finishing in the top 25 there wasn't a 25 until the early 90's. It was top 20 until then which would skew the numbers.

Yeah it's going to be easier for teams in the modern era to break these records cuz historically the poll was 20 teams, they both went to 25 in the late 80's.

There was a brief period in the mid 60's that the AP went to only a top 10.

You left off Georgia from 80-83. That was four straight top ten finishes.

Crazy to imagine that stretch of four years had only one SEC loss.

That's pretty much what Alabama was doing in the 70's too.

The SEC is just much tougher and deeper top to bottom these days. Outside of the bottom 2-3 teams, just about anybody is capable of beating anybody if they play their best and maybe catch a break or two.

Plus you play more games (8 instead of 6-7) and an SEC championship too.

So you're saying that Saban is only sticking around for another year two? How old do you think he is?

Are you one of the ones that claimed he would absolutely be gone after 3 years?

I wouldn't discount it as being impossible, but I wouldn't claim it to be fact either. No one really knows and anything is possible.

I think you need to reread what I wrote. I said he would beat the record. He's 4 away now. I consider "torching" a record beating it by 5+. No I do not think Saban will be coaching at Alabama 9 more years. Sorry if that offends you. He's 64 dude.
