Ohio State over Big 10 or however many teams these days Conference sets a precedent.

Lol no. Do you have any idea how much cash the SEC made yesterday?

Absolute lunacy to think titles games would go away.

No bama set the precedent in 2011 going to title game over Oklahoma State

There will come a point that playoff games will preclude conference title games.
Wait and watch.
Wait and watch.

They should be 1 vs 2 CCGS, to become defacto Quarterfinals.

$$$$$ dictates and I don't think they are going anywhere soon.

No one in their right believed that Oklahom State should have been in that game

Bama gets in no matter if they don't win it.

If it expands to 8 teams in the playoff I could see that happening.

Nah, conference titles can stay.
All they need to do is make it concrete. ANY team with a good resume and an 11-1 record (if they somehow don't make their conference title game) should receive playoff consideration.
Not just if you're an Ohio State, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Texas, or USC.
Everyone.

I don't think so, but I could see a return to cupcake vs the quality OOC games team schedule.

You guys think the playoff games don't make money for the conferences?
This precedent paves the path for 2 teams from the same conference making the playoffs, so why have a conference game that kills the chances of one of those potential teams.

They're not going anywhere.
In NATIONAL games regional championships should not be a deciding factor.
Psu beat Ohio state but lost to Pitt and got blown the frick out by michigan. You look at wins AND losses. People on here refuse to pay attention to losses.
LSU fans looove to bitch about 2011. Okie state lost to Iowa frickin state. Not only lost but AFTER Bama lost to number one. In the poll days when u lost u moved down. Okie state staying at number 2 after losing to Iowa state would have been the biggest travesty in organized sports. When u lost u had to move down, especially losing to an Iowa state. They also didn't play a conference championship game. The only folks that screwed anybody was Okie state for blowing that ISU game.
Ohio state was one of the 4 best. Period.
They got this right.

That's what will happen. Instead of conference title games, that week will be the first round of playoffs.

Did any LSU fans follow college football before 2003?

I could see it being phased out. The SEC game is an annual sellout, but the ACC, for example, looked like the upper decks were mostly empty.
Teams risked injury, maybe to key players, and for what?
SEC- irrelevant. Alabama was going in.
ACC- risked missing out on the playoffs, if Clemson would have lost.
Pac 12- risked missing out on the playoffs, if Washington lost.
Big 10- irrelevant. Neither team got in, it was handed to Ohio St.
It's really just a glorified exhibition at this point, and it's going to lose the appeal to the fans soon. And the moment some key player gets hurt, it'll be scrapped.

The committee doesn't follow precedent, and I think that's why it's frustrating for a lot of fans.
They look at each year individually, and I think that's probably the best way to do it
