**Not whining, just curious**
It's not like it would have made a difference in the game, and I apologize if this has been discussed, but...
I thought it was pretty obvious that Johnson's calf was (somehow) touching the ground before the ball came loose. If this is the case, is he technically down? I know if your knee or elbow touches, the play is dead...just wasn't sure about the calves

No it was obvious the ball was out.

his ankle was on the ground, I think. but i suppose one ankle doesn't equal a knee

Any part of the body except hands or feet is considered down.

I did not see that. The reverse angle showed the strip and once the ball is percieved to be out of control of the runner it is considered a fumble. It was close but I thought it was out before anything hit the ground. Calf would count if they saw it that way...

Its splitting hairs.
But yes an ankle touching the ground is supposed to be ruled down just to answer the question.

It was definitely a fumble based on the replays CBS showed. His backside and arm were definitely still off the ground. The calf is an extension of the foot in that situation. Basically it's elbow, shoulder, knee, butt and back that are considered down. The forearm is an extension of the elbow since in 99% of cases if the forearm is down so is the elbow.

I would also like to see it. Couldn't tell in the stadium.

It really looked like it came out before he hit the ground. It was really close, though.

Keiland Williams' calves wouldn't have been touching grass from that angle, no way Johnson's were.

CBS had a great angle on the play. FWIW. I'm sure it'll be on youtube at any moment. They had a still shot with the ball coming out and daylight underneath him.
