Maybe for y'all but at Texas A&M coaches have to work for recruits. He has been pretty busy since even before we hired him in our recruiting.

bullshite. Every major college program in Texas is a shite show right now and there is plenty of in State talent to go around. You're just making lame excuses.

He always has glaring talent gaps in his defenses and sticks with less talented guys with experience to a fault.

He's a good DC, but he has some major flaws.

He does defend the spread better than most though.

Member when Mark Snyder was fired and aggy told everyone the problem wasn't talent?

Yeah, I member..

Member when Chavis said his team is as talented as any team he had at UT or LSU?

Yeah, I member.

Literally the only thing I posted is bringing in LBers is what we told you his issue was.

I see no idiocracy in my post

Those two statements seems to contradict each other.

We Aggies are told all the time on here we aren't the top destination for recruits from Texas. So suddenly I actually admit that and it becomes a "lame excuse" despite the fact it can be backed up by facts?

Tell that to John "we're as talented as any team I've ever coached" Chavis.

It's corps. How the hell does an Aggie not know that word?

I really can't talk shite about what Chavis did or said because if I look at it impartially (aka not as an Aggie fan) he played us perfectly. He got an extra year of work at least he never would have had under Les, and all he had to do so far is recruit some, blow some smoke up our asses about how great we are, and wear our colors.

I personally dislike the end results for my program but I can't hate the player, I just hate the game.

Nah, there is recruiting in the NBA. Just ask Golden State

You said in the links above that you trust him because you expect him to tell the truth. Now, all of a sudden when you are in a different conversation you have all this skepticism. Interesting.

Stop enabling and justifying Chavis. The big Chief is underaChiefing.

He was recruiting for A&M before his bed was made at LSU's Bowl game.

He defends it all the way to the End Zone.

I did. All of us Aggies all did. We trusted he had a real competency about evaluating and coaching defensive players. We were maybe wrong, but we didn't know that then because frankly we haven't had a decent defensive coach at the school in over a decade.

I don't have any skepticism. Now that we are in the future the facts are known. I know the facts.

Fact: Les was fired this season, likely taking Chavis with him.

Fact: We won't fire Chavis this season, ensuring that he gets another year of massive pay that he wouldn't have gotten at LSU due to the "Les Clause."

None of that is very interesting to me at this point.

What is so interesting to me is the fact that the warnings we were given were so far off.

We were warned Chavis sucked on 3rd downs, or about his lack of recruiting. So far that hasn't been our problems with Chavis. His recruiting has been at least decent in my eyes, and his defenses perform better at stopping teams on third down (we are ranked 63rd on that stat) than we have done on defense overall (ranked 91 nationally).

Our biggest problems under Chavis has been defending the run (75th nationally) or the pass (97th nationally) on any down under Chavis. It is like he is a completely different guy under us, which means either he was always a fraud or the culture of Texas football creates larger issues on the defense that Chavis can't fix. The fact that not a single Power 5 team from Texas has a defense in the top 50 nationally tells me it could be both things at the same time.

He isn't a different guy, you just don't listen to him when he speaks. His philosophy is to defend the field with speed and stop the run with numbers. His teams do get run on (when they don't have Haynesworth and Henderson to plug in the middle) because his priority is to cover the field and arrive on the run with many hats. When the Calvary can't get there, they give up yards. Such has been his entire career.

We just went over the fact he was probably lying to us to get more than a million dollars, so yeah I don't listen to him.

Fair enough. Maybe "3rd and Chavis" is just more catchy than "Soft Up the Middle Chavis."

I kinda like the gay overtones of the latter though, I can't lie.

How is that fact? Only the bad coaches were let go along with Les. Chavis wasn't a bad coach at LSU. Speculation does not equal fact.

You're dealing with aggy. Chavis was great until he wasn't. The talent was equal until it wasn't. Chavis was going to get fired so he's smart, even though he's probably going to get fired anyway.

Based on the ironic reality, Chavis probably would have gotten a fat raise and a promotion to Associate HC under Coach O.

Didn't Chavis recruit the upper classmen of LSUs D?
