When it comes to college football teams there are several aspects that are easily recognizable – the name (college and/or nickname), mascot and, of course, the uniforms. Whether it’s in person or watching on TV, one thing that always stands out – whether that ends up being a good thing or bad – is what a particular team is wearing.
Uniform rankings are nothing new, as AthlonSports.com contributors tackled each of the Power 5 conferences earlier this offseason, but what about an overall top 25 for all FBS teams? Athlon decided to pose this question to a collection of editors and contributors with each participant coming up with their own list of their favorite 25 unis. Once the votes were tabulated, this was the end result. Plenty of familiar names and looks on here, but there may be a surprise or two as well.
Here are a few of the teams that just missed the cut – Baylor, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. Remember, beauty, or in this case, gridiron fashion, is in the eye of the beholder.

24. Auburn
College Football Uniforms: AuburnSo many teams, both collegiate and professional, have the navy and orange look. But few have kept their look as crisp, simple and timeless as Auburn has.

20. Tennessee
College Football Uniforms: Tennessee VolsNo one in the world has this shade of orange. Every time you see it, you think Tennessee Volunteers. That’s a branding identity you simply cannot put a price on.

19. Florida
College Football Uniforms: FloridaThe Gator mascot and natural school colors offer the program much to work with. And give Florida credit for rarely overdoing it when it comes to uniforms. The orange and blue are natural complements, and the script “Gators” helmet is a classic that is very different from most of the program’s SEC peers.
quote:
13. Georgia
College Football Uniforms: Georgia BulldogsCall it the Jordan Brand effect, but growing up, no uniforms were cooler than black-and-red ones. Georgia fans have known this for quite some time, making their classic look tough to beat, as the alternate black jerseys are every bit as cool as the basic red or white ones. Tough to beat that simple “G” helmet, too.

8. Alabama
College Football Uniforms: Alabama Crimson TideThis is the classic case of simple being better. When you claim 16 national titles, all won in the same look, there is no reason to tinker with the uniform. Crimson and white has Nick Saban’s no-nonsense “process” written all over it, but that’s the catch: This program’s history extends way beyond its current leader, and those numbered helmets are just one nice old-school touch that reminds all of what the other team is up against when facing Alabama.

5. LSU
College Football Uniforms: LSU TIgersWhen you look on the field and see the familiar purple and gold of the Tigers, those uniforms only add to the familiar, special scene. The colors fit in perfectly with the unique state and create an identity for the Bayou Bengals that few can match.
4. USC
3. Penn State
2. Notre Dame
1. Michigan

Auburn Stormtroopers are #1.
You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it.

Unless of course you're the Green Bay Packers

I don't get why simplistic is always considered awesome. To me, it's generally boring. I like Alabama's numbered helmet for sure. I hate anything with stickers on the helmet it's trashy to me.
I like Michigan's. Good mix of old fashion, but not bland. Also, Auburn is underrated.

Purple and yellow don't belong on football uniforms.
Fight me.

Does anyone have a bad look when they go all white unis?
(minus that silly giant logo on the let)
(bring these back, Gatas)

Uniforms are obviously subjective
But Auburn at 24 is way underrated, and I think even SEC rivals would agree with that.

These are always so partial to a few looks that kind of get old. Realistically... LSU, OM, and AU have very similar unis. Likewise... Bama, UT (since they changed to Nike), and UGA also look similar.
Don't get me wrong, it's a fine list, but I'm not crazy about companies just copy/pasting units from team to team.
Related: Sorry rocky top, you got a glorified bama knock off look when you swapped to Nike.

Any list that has Bama and Penn St in the top 10 has to be written by a reporter who still watches games on his black and white TV.

We are bringing back the short shoulder stripes this year, too:
Looks damn good

How in the world does anyone think Baylor has a good uniform much less one of the top looks in the country?

Good. That looks so much cleaner than the long stripes.

My favorite SEC uniforms are Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU and Ole Miss.

There is nothing better, to me, than looking back old pictures from games 50 years ago and seeing teams wearing the exact same uniforms.

Personally, I don't know why they require one team to be in all-white. This was instituted in the days of black and white newspapers and TV and that is the only reason the NCAA developed the rule.
Occasionally a game is played today with both teams in home colors and it is amazing and interesting. Here is an example... unfortunately with some of the more boring uniforms in CFB.
Soccer worldwide has seemed to thrive without requiring some team to be in white and it is a colorful spectacle. I say, do away with white uni requirement. Make rules that say simply "contrasting colors" and is case of dispute, home team chooses.

I agree with Jacknola. Kill me.
ETA: I don't think white for away teams is a bad idea, but I think it should be suggested and not forced. Actually penalizing a team for not wearing white when on the road is stupid.
