How much longer do you think the 4 team playoff will last until there could be a potential 8 team playoff?. I understand the 4 team playoff has to run its course and i enjoy every minute off it but the 8 team playoff would result in more football would it not?. Also do you think they should do a playoff like the Div 2 schools do?

I don't know if ESPN is looking to dilute the Playoff product already, last year the ratings sucked so I don't think they want to slice that pie thinner.

Plus there is the fact that once you have programs playing well into Winter with an eight team playoffs just for money the whole amateurism thing seems even more implausible, which is a huge liability for the entire NCAA because of upcoming pay-for-play lawsuits.

I think the four team playoff will last a very very long time. It seems odd now, but eventually one Power 5 conference will fold and the championship games of the remaining conference will make a de facto first round of the playoffs and everyone will be happy.

It should never go to 8, 4 is perfect.

But of course everything is about money nowadays so in our lifetimes it'll probably go to 32 or some shite.

Maybe, maybe not.

I like 4 for now. Almost assures that you have to have an elite regular season to qualify. I still think college football has by FAR the best regular season of any major sport (college basketball, NFL, NBA, MLB, etc) because every game is important except the game Alabama picks every year as the one that doesn't matter.

Expanding to eight you will definitely start getting two loss teams in the playoff / championship game. We don't really want a LSU 2007 type champion again do we?

I don't think it would go any further into the year with 8 teams.

They would play the qtrs. the week after the ccgs , the bowls & championship would stay the same.

The ratings were down because of the choice to play the semi finals on NYE. they should have moved them to Jan 1 or Jan 2

Part/most of the reason the ratings were down was the decision to put the first round on New Years' Eve night. I believe there was a conflict or something, but if that keeps up then the I don't know how they can expect the ratings to improve. Horrible timing for college football fans.

the four team format will continue...until the first time the Crimson Tide finishes in FIFTH place. at this point there will be a complete overhaul.

Having the CFP on NYE is a disaster. No reason it shouldn't be on New Year's Day every year.

Also 4 is perfect. Adding one more game dilutes the product and increases the risk of injury. You get a true champion out the 4 team format anyway. Not to mention opening it up to 8 would open the door for 2 loss teams and when you do that, you start messing with the sanctity of the best regular season in all of sports.

I used to be in the 8 team camp, but 4 really is awesome. I wish there would be rules about conference championship games, power 5 OOC games, and some sort of computer element though. The Big 12 is going to waltz to a couple championships too easily.

You could make arguments that #5-7 should be included just based on SOS alone

That's because the shine has worn off. Go back to BCS or traditional bowl tie-ins please.

Actually, if you look at history (AP, UPI, BCS natties), things change because Bama is winning too much.

They changed the AP poll to after the bowl games because Bama won the 1964 national championship over Arkansas even though we lost the bowl game because bowl games until that point didn't count.

The same with the Coaches poll, UPI, changed in 1973 because Bama won the 1973 Coaches poll national championship because they voted before the bowl games and Bama got beat by ND that year in the bowl.

BCS, well the other conferences were pissed because the SEC were winning too many championships; with Bama winning the most; so they changed to a playoff system.

If Bama wins 1 or 2 mor in the CFP, watch and see if they don't change it somehow; maybe to a 8 team playoff.

The ACC and B1G will be happy, anyway.

If the big12 gets a championship game, we sort of have a first round type hurdle with seccg, pac12cg, acccg, And B1Gcg.

Basically, 4 is enough with championship games.
