All it would take is a one day strike by college football players to get Pay for Play. One day. Gameday. That would be the end of College Football as we know it. Only a handfull of colleges/conferences would be able to afford to field teams.
Good thing or bad thing?

Would never happen in a million years thing. Players should never be paid, period. One of the reasons I love cfb is the players are playing for their school/teammates/pride et cetera, not money. Paying players would be the end of cfb.

Ole Miss wouldn't need to strike demanding pay for play. When the dust settles and they are the only remaining team, I guess they'll finally get to claim a championship.
Congrats, Black Bears!

And all it would take is the same unity among the college programs to say "OK, you guys strike. You are defaulting on your commitment of your scholarship so you are not only off the team, but you're done with school. We'll just get the next best group of students to play. The level of play will not be as good for 3-4 years, but it will return shortly after that. And instead of making millions in the NFL or graduating from college, you'll be working at a car wash in your old hometown."
What if Mizzou had done that last year?

I think the notion of most players playing for their schools, teammates, pride etc. has already died. Most are playing mostly hoping to become good enough to cash in following their college career in the NFL.

I agree with all of this. If players went on strike, college football could simply tell them all to walk and grab the next tier. The competition would remain on the same level, the ceiling just wouldn't be as high.
Plus the only players that would go on strike would be handfuls of top tier players anyway, the bottom half of every squad would drool at the notion of the top half getting booted whether they are best friends or not. All of a sudden, they would be the top dog around.

And I'd have to think that if a player had the notion to strike, his momma or daddy would slap that notion right out of his head in a flash.
Kids make stupid decisions all the time, but when they jeopardize a free education/room/board, the parents would nix any thought of a strike.

You act as if the schools have no recourse against this. A scholarship is an arrangement. It can be revoked, or not extended, for a number of reasons. If you've ever signed one, you know what you are agreeing to. It is clearly outlined what your scholly covers. For most football players that is: Tuition, Books, Room and Board, health care for any injuries incurred during activity or training for your sport, academic support, etc.
It also allows you an unparalleled platform from which to display your talent and audition for one of the rarest & best paying jobs on the planet. I'm so sick of the "these poor kids" argument. They get a great deal and anyone leaving college with student loan debt understands this.

The odds of this happening are growing rapidly. The money the majors make and the opulence of their facilities juxtaposed against the poverty most of the players grow up in is eventually going to explode and engulf the entire world of college football. The spark to ignite it is a few Great players & Team Leaders coordinating together from conferences across the country and it will happen.
