Marquette is the 5 seed in our region. Might end up playing them in Women's too.

Dawn wasn't happy about going out to CA though. Apparently it's the 3rd time in 4 years we're multiple time zones away.

The final black mark on resigned Arkansas coach Jimmy Dyke's ledger. At a time when Arkansas is putting out more high level female basketball talent then ever his team collapses like a house of cards and doesn't even make the NIT.

The NCAA has picked some crappy regional sites in the name of trying to sell tickets.

I kinda wish we'd miss out so Holly would be fricking fired. The new AD needs to lay down the fricking law to her and give her an ultimatum - meet LV standards next season or you're gone. It's not as though we'd have a tough time hiring a replacement. Coaches would kill to have the LV job, especially now that they won't have the weight of following Summitt directly.

But any coach is going to be compared to her and not be able to meet expectations because of it.

Looking at the SEC schools this is how I rate the games

#16 UNC Asheville @ #1 South Carolina
Home game for Cocks, this should be an easy win and Cocks advance
(I know Cock fans are pissed about the seeding but UK fans can feel your pain! The 3 straight Final Four teams the Cats had were the highest frequent flier miles in the tourney. Sent them out to the west coast for the first rounds then to basic home games in Connecticut for the regionals.

It took the Cats hosting in Lexington to break the hazing the NCAA was putting UK through. Nobody said boo on the media but they did a similar to the Terps this year and the ESPN were all tussled about how unfair the NCAA was. Hope you guys win out west and take down Uconn as karma)

#15 Troy @ #2 Mississippi State
Game is at Starkville and should be a blowout but watching Vivians may be worth it. Texas A&M and Arkansas fans may have more than a passing interest as he was an assistant at both (Final Four for Hogs and Natty for TAMU) so he has been to the show before. Would really like to see State advance deep this year and would be nice to see the WEST rise again in the NCAA's

#13 Belmont @ #4 Kentucky
While this is a home game for the Cats, they may start sluggish with the extra week off and Belmont is no stranger to playing P5 teams. I do not see an upset but do expect a close game if the Cats are thinking ahead to the Western Kentucky and Ohio State game as both have former UK players on their rosters and bragging rights in the Ohio Valley will be big for all 3 schools.

For those who may not know, before the rise of Line Beards and Cats in WBB the Hilltoppers of Western were the top dog in the state. They were in a Final Four in Lexington in the mid or late 80's and have new money flowing in from their local Sugar Daddy now they have moved up to CUSA. If you have 5 - 10 billion in annual revenue from one of the largest privately held companies you have some advantages others do not.

#12 Penn vs #5 Texas A&M
While I feel TAMU should handle their business easily Penn is just not a team I saw play all year so not sure what to expect. Quakers lost @ Duke but is was not a terrible blowout and they beat Princeton 3 times this season, but this years Tigers are not the Princeton Tigers of the past few years.

#12 Dayton vs #5 Tennessee
I am putting the Lady Vols on UPSET ALERT as Dayton can be sneaky good and under the radar when it comes to WBB. In the past few years they went into Memorial for a early round game and upset host Kentucky. Many games in WBB fall off the radar with no P5 coverage and it can just take a single player and good team chemistry to pull the upset.

#11 South Florida vs #6 Missouri (21-10)
Should be a win for Tigers as the past few years they have had a freaky good outside game. If they get hot early the Bulls could be in real trouble. I think it was 2 years ago Mizzou set the SEC record for most 3 points in a season. Wile I am pretty sure that deadeye has graduated they seem to just reload. Did not get to watch them as much as in the past but seem they have a Gatorade player and some coaches kids on the team.

#9 California vs #8 Louisiana State
9 vs 8 is not really an upset but many thought the Bears did not deserve the invite so will have a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. Here is to Tigers advancing tho!

#11 Auburn vs #6 North Carolina State
This is my real expected upset game. ACC has been getting all the media love this season and they might be believing it. Tigers can be scrappy and I would not be surprised at all if they took this one from the Wolfpack. May be a good bellwether game for who is better this season between the 2 conferences.

Prof,

You are a smart guy and know how hard it is to be the coach that follows the legend. Holly was in a no win situation from the start and you will have to let the fans drop expectations for a few years so the next coach comes in with less pressure.

Grits,

I agree with your analysis. I like Auburn in that 11-6 upset.

South Carolina should easily advance. No use wasting space talking about them.

Troy is interesting. There's a lot of Mississippi connections on that team. State's game is defense first, and this game could be closer at halftime than a typical 2-15. State will pull it out, but I do not like the impending DePaul matchup in the second round. DePaul = Kentucky. Kentucky = MSU's achilles heel.

Belmont is an experienced team in the NCAAs. They gave Michigan State a good game in the 4-13 last year. Kentucky should win, but Bruins will be scrappy.

A&M is in a trap game against the Ivy Champs, Penn. Penn will slow them down and the Aggies will have to win a game in the 50s. Then they get to play UCLA for the right to play UConn.

South Florida can beat Mizzou. That's my first round upset for an SEC team. You are right on Dayton-Tennessee being a game to watch.

Cal shouldn't have been in the tournament much less a 9 seed. LSU will roll. †

UK squeaks by Belmont. 73-70.

Auburn was a no-show until the 4th quarter. Loses by 14.

There is no "d" in Troy. MSU for 110.

One of our starting seniors is out for the tournament.

We should win both our home games and go to the Sweet 16 pretty easily.

But without Coates + traveling to CA I'm not sure how they'll fair after that.

They did beat MSU in the SEC-T Finals without her though.

We are absolutely destroying UNC-A. Kinda feel bad for 'em, truthfully. Lady Gs look like they're having a fun practice session while putting on a clinic at the same time.

Hopefully our guys take a page out of our lady's book.
