In 2008, you had Nick Saban, Phillip Fulmer, Urban Meyer, Mark Richt, Steve Spurrier, Tommy Tuberville, and Les Miles all coaching within the confines of the SEC. That was a fairly impressive cadre of coaches. All of them had won at least one SEC title and four of them had national championship rings. That doesn't even include the likes of Bobby Petrino, a good coach in his own right.

In 2016, you have Nick Saban and Gus Malzahn. Those are the only two coaches in this league who have won an SEC title. And one of them, you could argue, got his ring on a fluke.

Coaching is starting to drag this league down because now you have one great coach, one or two good ones, and the rest range from mediocre to downright awful. I don't know how it happened. I don't know if it's the Saban Effect or something else entirely, but coaching has sure taken a nose dive in this league over the last few years.

its beautiful, Alabama cannot be messed with. College football can't wrap its head around on what Bama has done and is still doing.

We are the best and its sad watching other programs get their hopes up. Except for Auburn.. they thought they had a chance a few weeks ago but who were they trying to kid??

SOS and Meyer are the 2 that hurt the conference and SOS was done and needed to retire from USCe. It seems like none of the schools hired coaches with much experience. Saban is the best coach in college football. No one else Is in the top 10.

BINGO. Right now the Big Ten is making the best hires.

Saban's fault.

I think most of the West is better than half the teams in the Top 15 with their starting qb's. That's JMO. How many teams in the West would have 2 losses with Penn States schedule? LSU has proven to be a better team without a NC winning coach. The West beats itself up outside of Bama.

Now the East is a different story. Full of coaching duds right now.

I wouldn't call it a fluke. Give saban more credit than that.

Hopefully, LSU makes a good hire and some of the SEC coaches in place now will produce better results soon.

Big 10 and ACC have made some coaching gains in recent years.

OP makes a valid point. Who's the second best coach in the conference, or third? Whoever you put has more than just a few flaws

When you can make a reasonable case that Dan Mullen is the second o third best coach in the conference you know coaching is down; and that is not a knock on him. He is solid, but has not even won his own division. Freeze, Bitch, Sumlin, who would likely be in or around the top 5 haven't either.

Yes coaching sucks in the SEC.
