I found this at a different place. The work was not my own.
Taking a look at the preseason coach's poll compared to ESPN's "Preseason FPI rankings"
Coach Poll Rank...........FPI Rank......Difference
1.......Ohio State..........1...Ohio St....(NA)
2.......TCU.................2...Alabama....(+1)
3.......Alabama.............3...TCU........(-1)
4.......Baylor..............4...LSU........(+9)
5.......Oregon..............5...Baylor.....(-1)
6.......Michigan State......6...Oregon.....(-1)
7.......Auburn..............7...Notre Dame.(+4)
8.......Florida St..........8...Ole Miss...(+7)
9.......Georgia.............9...Georgia....(NA)
10......USC.................10..Arkansas...(+10)
11......Notre Dame..........11..Tex A&M....(+16)
12......Clemson.............12..UCLA.......(+2)
13......LSU.................13..USC........(-3)
14......UCLA................14..Tennessee..(+11)
15......Ole Miss............15..Oklahoma...(+4)
16......Arizona State.......16..Mich. St...(-10)
17......Georgia Tech........17..Stanford...(+4)
18......Wisconsin...........18..Auburn.....(-11)
19......Oklahoma............19..Clemson....(-7)
20......Arkansas............20..AZ State...(-4)
21......Stanford............21..Fla St.....(-13)
22......Arizona.............22..Miss. St...(+4)
23......Missouri............23..Ga Tech....(-6)
24......Boise State.........24..Mizzou.....(-1)
25......Tennessee...........25..Michigan...(1 vote in coaches poll)
26......Miss. St
27......Tex A&M
Of the 11 teams that were ranked higher in the FPI than in coaches poll, 7 were SEC teams.
Final disparity between polls by conference (# of spots moved):
ACC......(-26)
Big 10...(-10)
Big 12...(+2)
Pac 12...(-2)
SEC......(+46)
I don't see how anybody could argue that ESPN is unbiased.

One could just argue that the coaches are biased and vote for teams in their own conference instead of clearly better SEC teams.

FPI is different than the ESPN poll
Posted on 7/31/15 at 9:46 am to nebraskafaninwi
quote:
The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.
FPI is NOT a poll. Clearly the Big 10 should start offering remedial reading comprehension courses.

FPI isn't a poll, it's an index. It combines recruiting, coaching tenure, returning starters, and other data to compile predictive success.
I think last year's FPI's top 3 all made the college football playoff, for whatever that's worth to you

According to the FPI, we will have a good season

Thanks to OM for TCU being so vastly overrated!
Baylor overrated also. But they both play a creampuff schedule so we won't know until bowl season.

Actually the FPI looks more reasonable to me.
SEC as a whole consistently has a winning record in bowl season.

I would say Baylor is overrated, but TCU not so much.

This is exactly the sentiment I expect from a fanbase so proud of playing hard nosed, tug-o-war, 3 and out, 1982 football in a 3 point loss to Alabama every year. be you.

Let me know when your style translates to the post season, but until then please unrustle your jimmies.

you misunderstand me, I'm glad your cro magnon brain distrusts my team. It means they are executing the design correctly.

By losing to a grind it out 1982 style team like Michigan St? Is that how y'all are sneaking up on everyone? Please show us all the trophies your team has won outright the past five years.

TCU has a creampuff schedule. I have heard the TCU hype so many times I'm over it.
It used to be an annual thing that this was TCU's year. And the last 25 games in a row the Aggies whipped them.
I hope the Aggies have the good fortune to be matched with TCU in a bowl.
