Mullen is the antithesis of Sumlin.

Sumlin has 12 win talent and wins 8 games. Mullen has 3 win talent and consistently wins 7-8 games most years.

I agree with your idea but I think you exaggerated your numbers a little bit

And some Aub's are claiming Gus is coaching for his job this year.

No they didn't.

If Malzahn finishes the season with a 5-7 or 6-6 record, my gut tells me he is out. Since that miraculous season of 2013, Gus's record is a putrid 23-16.

Doubt it. It'd take a 2012 season to get him fired this year.

Another 7-5 disappointing type season and his seat would be very warm next year though

"Dabo, we're not in the ACC anymore". Playing those two game seasons will be over. There are a lot of teams like Pitt in the SEC.

And Smart just brought a better recruiting class than Richt ever managed and has us in the running for the top class the next 2 years.

When you see them all typed up like that in a list it really is staggering how bad the overall head coaching talent in the SEC is right now.

You've got one of the best coaches of all time and 13 nobodies, B listers, or failures.

We're in for a decade of bad football as a result. Well, everyone outside of Tuscaloosa, that is.

As long as the SEC continues to pull in 8 or 9 top ten recruiting classes every single February, it's not falling off.

Wow, so after joining A&M went from being a team that would need 5-10 years to catch up to the SEC in overall talent to a team that has horses to win 12 every year?

SEC is definitely shite if Gus is ranked number 2.

Honestly, I'd put McElwain above Gus. Gus has had one great season, 1 good season, and 3 mediocre to bad seasons. McElwain has gone to the SEC Championship Game both seasons he's been at Florida, and done so after losing his starting QB midway through both seasons. Granted, the East has been pretty bad both of those years, but he still made it.

But I'm looking at it from who would I hire perspective. At this point, I think McElwain has much more upside than Gus.
