1. Nick Saban

2. Gus Malzahn

3. Kevin Sumlin

4. Jim McElwain

5. Dan Mullen

6. Butch Jones

7. Bret Bielema

8. Kirby Smart

9. Will Muschamp

10. Mark Stoops

11. Derek Mason

12. Ed Orgeron

13. Barry Odom

14. Hugh Freeze

Again, I don't expect for you to agree with me on every ranking -- Hugh Freeze is the hardest to slot here since you have to balance out good on field success with the fact that he's probably going to get fired over NCAA issues and that Ole Miss is going to get hammered -- but if your coach got fired and you could only hire another coach from inside the conference, other than Nick Saban who would you take and be really excited about hiring?

Amazingly, Gus Malzahn is the only coach in the SEC right now other than Nick Saban who has ever even won the conference title. (Saban, Malzahn and Jim McElwain are the only three coaches to have even had teams play in the SEC title game).

I think most aren't really surprised by that. Most on this site are willing to admit that the head coaching in this league isn't very impressive atm.

Honestly I was going to just laugh this off, but the SEC as a whole has some pretty weak coaching. Couldn't make a great case for 4-8 over them.

The short-sightedness in this league has become absurd.

We're in for a decade of bad football as a result. Well, everyone outside of Tuscaloosa, that is.

Look at the coaches in the ACC compared to ours: Fisher; Swinney; Cutcliffe; Fuente; Mendenhall; Fedora; and Richt. shite, Paul Johnson and Dave Doreen aren't terrible either.

Georgia, LSU, and Auburn are all guilty of firing their coaches, despite being relatively successful, all because of Saban's success in Tuscaloosa. Mark Richt went 9-3 in 2015 before getting canned. Think about that.

He also opted to start a 3rd string qb against Florida after hiring a successful but cancerous DC and a flat out bad OC, all while the state was being pillaged of top talent by our out of state rivals. If anything it was the most proactive move out of Butts-Mehre in decades

Is Hugh seriously the worst coach in the SEC?

He won some games at OM but is going to leave the program in shambles. Kinda tough to evaluate him.

And some Aub's are claiming Gus is coaching for his job this year. He's the solid #2 coach in the conference right now.
