I think this is kind of a stupid discussion. The fanbases are drawing from the exact same demographic pool. Alabama probably has more crazy fringe types because sidewalk fans tend to support the bigger school. But overall, I'd say they are pretty interchangeable. A more interesting comparison would be Auburn/Alabama fans versus UF or Mizzou or some other demographically distinct fanbase.

IRL, obviously Auburn. I don't think anyone except Alabama homers would dispute that. Far more Auburn fans have an actual connection with the university.
Alabama fans who went to college - not necessarily Alabama but any college - are just fine.

Good: Alabama 30%, Auburn 30%
Average: Alabama 20%, Auburn 50%
Trashy: Alabama 40 %, Auburn 20%
Criminal trash: Alabama 10% Auburn 0%
