Would be a big loss for MSU.

Sources said Stricklin turned down the offer earlier this month but Florida returned with a better offer within the last couple of days.

Stricklin didn't immediately return a message asking for comment on the story.

Stricklin, a Starkville native and Mississippi State graduate, would replace Jeremy Foley, who is retiring. His last day is Oct. 1. Stricklin became MSU's athletic director in 2010.

Stricklin received the 2015-16 Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year Award by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Stricklin began at MSU in media relations in 1990. After stops at Auburn, Tulane, Baylor and Kentucky, Stricklin returned to Starkville as the Senior Associate AD of External affairs in 2008. He became athletic director in 2010.

He's an alumni and married Bailey Howell's daughter, that dude is dug in as deep as it gets. Florida better bring the cash.

I'm guessing we will at least double his salary, wouldn't be surprised if it is north of $1 million.

Supposedly they came with 1 mil+ and he turned it down, but I guess they are back with more.

Son of a bitch that's a lot of money, talk about internal conflict. I bleed maroon but hot damn.

If you're Stricklin, this is a no brainer.

Thread title is misleading, he hasn't accepted an offer, they are just reporting that he's their top target.

We offered the UNC AD (which I was not a fan of) somewhere around $1.5 million. Must have been able to get his offer up somewhere close to that as well, that's a lofty pay raise. I'm sure its not an easy decision given his roots there.

No, its not misleading. They confirm the rumor that was posted on here a couple of days ago that he was UF's top target.

I'm like the other poster. I bleed maroon but you pay me seven figures a year and I'd work at Alabama and scream Roll Tide.

It is misleading, it reads as if they are confirming that he is taking the UF job.

I am the other poster.

By run shite do you mean convincing Scott that Rick Ray was the next big thing?

Color me skeptical, but this story was first reported by the same site that gave us "Mullen to Maryland" and "Hevesy to coach OL at USCw "

And SS is a native of Jackson, not Starkville

Saw where off is $1.4M

He makes $500k now.

You would think there is no way he turned down a first offer. Mama's calling is a powerful thing.
