Ole Miss justly claims 59,60, and 62. Including the second best team ever.
50 best teams since WW2

Absolutely, baw. 1966 for Bama it is
In a system with no championship game, professional wrestling rules apply. You own the belt until you lose, doesn't matter what somebody else does.

I believe the 1985 Gator team that was ranked #1 during the season as well as the 1990 team also deserve some consideration.

Arkansas had a perfect season in 1909, let's say we share a title?

"In a system with no title game".... That's pretty damn clear dummy.
It's different than the 04 USC situation. USC dismantled Oklahoma, no one player made a difference. That's why OU wouldn't claim it when it was stripped from USC.
AU-FSU the difference was a player that shouldn't have been in the game. AU was well on its way to beating down FSU in a similar fashion before Winston put his team on his back. Even then it still came down to the final seconds and one play.
Therefore, AU = 2013 national champions to us

OU has a valid claim to 9 or 12 national titles. Not sure why they only claim 7

That would not follow his statement at all. He said the belt would stay with you until you lose. Alabama lost twice in 2013 so his "belt stays with you" would not apply.

A lot more than 16 claimed or 10 poll titles.

An argument can be made for 1977; Notre Dame leap frogged us from 5 to 1 after they beat Texas in their bowl game; Alabama defeated #9 Ohio State 35-6.
Both ND and Bama went 11-1. Both lost the second week of the season on the road. Bama in Lincoln to Nebraska. ND in Jackson to Ole Miss. Bama beat Ole Miss 34-13 the week before in the opener!

~heh~ Fair enough, though that was the era of the pre-bowl titles (bowl games were considered exhibition matches). I never argue with an Arky fan who wants to claim it, they deserve it too.
1966 ended the regular season with Alabama as the only undefeated team. Notre Dame and Michigan State were both undefeated and played to a tie. I could get the argument that they both deserve it - so it shows the inherent bias for ND that there wasn't even a call to split the title with MSU.
ND and MSU didn't play in a bowl game (ND quite often would decline bowl games back in the day, and MSU was under the "no consecutive trips to the Rose Bowl" stipulation. Alabama took out their frustrations on #6 Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl, 34-7.
My usual thought is "trade 1941 for '66 or '77"; however, I get that Alabama's policy is no claimed titles post-1950 unless awarded by a major poll (AP & UPI/Coaches prior to the BCS days). There's a few others where the claim would be WAY better, like 1936 (we were 8-0-1, every team ahead of us in the polls had a loss or more); 1937 (finished the regular season undefeated, going back to the pre-bowl title era, but Pitt won it), and like I've said before, 1945 - but I would never want to take away what that Army squad accomplished that year.
So... eh. I usually just tell people to compare poll titles and done with it. No claimed/acknowledged titles, just major poll ones.

I think LSU can claim 1969 as well. Williamson or some such thing said they were #1. Got screwed by ND so actually could have been so it's legit

How does the 2nd best team ever have a loss (and not to the best team ever)?

Pretty simple really: Jameis should've been in jail that night for rape. Kind of ironic without a rapist on the field, Auburn would've raped FSU. Also, it's just a matter of time before some Reggie Bush shite is exposed and they have to forfeit.
Auburn committed a bunch of violations in 2010 such as changing players' grades, so according to your logic, Michael Dyer should not have been playing for the 2010 game. Can't have it both ways. I wonder if Auburn has to forfeit too and TCU gets it.
