CBS whiffed on the next two weeks of college football

We've got Miss. St @ Kentucky over Ole Miss @ LSU this week and then next week we've got Florida vs Georgia in Jacksonville over Auburn @ Ole Miss.
This week we've got the #1 team in the country going on the road to face a formidable 5-2 Kentucky. This isn't a bad pick. You've got the #1 team and a heisman contender. That's a recipe for ratings success. Unfortunately, Kentucky got exposed last week by LSU and it seems very unlikely that they'll keep it close. That's gonna hurt viewership. Meanwhile in Baton Rouge, there's a rivalry matchup between #3 and #24. LSU probably has a larger fanbase than State and Kentucky combined and they're coming off two big wins. College gameday will be promoting the game, with the mothership broadcasting in prime time.
Next week we've got CBS heading to Jacksonville for the deathmarch that is now Will Muschamp's coaching career. Big rivalry between big programs, unfortunately this won't have much entertainment value unless you like Georgia or trainwrecks. Meanwhile, there will be a top 5 matchup in Oxford pending Ole Miss and Auburn victories this weekend. Regardless of that, this one will be hugely important in deciding the SECw. If Auburn loses, they're eliminated barring a miracle. If Ole Miss loses, the margin for error becomes zero. If Ole Miss loses the next two, they're out. Have fun with that cocktail party, Verne and Gary!

when you're the 2nd biggest rivalry in the SEC you get penciled in the good slots years in advance.

They didn't pick ole miss for every game this year

CBS has a handshake deal to not take LSU home games unless there is a big reason to do so. They honored their agreement. That's pretty much the only thing the conference did for LSU in exchange for the terrible scheduling formula. See ya at Georgia in 2025 guys.

CBS picked the game before the season. I'm well aware of that. It still blows for them as far as ratings are concerned.

If that was the case, they wouldn't pick the game before the season starts every year

it'll still get ratings.
No, not as much as a top 10 matchup, but it's not like people wouldn't watch teh iron bowl even if one team was awful.

Even though CBS is better for ratings, I much prefer ESPN's coverage.

I'd rather have our games on ESPN TBH.

It will have higher ratings than AU/OM

I'm sorry nobody wants to watch your team play.

I'll still watch the wlocp. I watch it every year. Wouldn't miss it in the cbs window. No sec game to complete. 2010 and 2013 wlocp were meaningless, but they were great games. People will watch it because of the rivalry.

exactly. Plus if we get gurley back that's one of the biggest storylines in cfb that weekend and I guarantee you people will tune in to watch him.

Well yeah, it's on network tv, not cable. Those games always have higher ratings.

To be honest, I agree. I think it is going to be a slaughterfest.

I want more day games. Would get better crowds that stay the whole game.
