Auburns defense has been hot garbage since the Tubs years.

This season, Auburn has faced 186 plays, more than any team in the SEC by 13 plays. They are not last in yards per play nor yards per game, however.

Auburn also has not given up a TD in 6 quarters. They have given up only 12 points in those 6 quarters. They are in the top half of the league in scoring defense and rushing defense.

Cause for concern or optimism?

If I were you, and I am glad I am not, I would be very worried. Your coach does not understand defense and is a christian to boot. His wife is crazy, he probably participated in NCAA rule-breaking and his scheme is just that. All of these things plus a shitty defense amounts to more time in the cellar. Sorry.

Anxious to see how we do in SEC play, but they are in a positive trend. They are playing with more intensity and tackling is vastly improved overall. Our DB play has gotten better. We should see how we really stack up in 2 weeks against SEC competition going into LSU. That should be our first real test of the improvements our defense has made.

Neither because AU hasn't played anybody yet.

Jury's still out. I think you're a whole lot better but Washington State going without an offensive TD against USC didn't look good.

Improvement is improvement.

Unfortunately your defense will not stand up to The Grind.

Not a real good measuring stick since it is LSU after all. You guys should totally dominate that shitty, in decline team...

Agreed...LSU's passing has looked really good. Ill get intereseted to see what our DBs can do against them.

Cause for optimism. AU is not there yet, but at least they have a map and are going in the right direction. That wasn't the case last year. The map was upside down and of the wrong state last year.

I did not watch the Washington State game.

I watched the Arkansas State game...and while the score says you dominated, I did not really come away that impressed with Auburn.

That being said, Auburn should be able to beat MSU. We're turrible.

AU is a functioning LB away from being a decent SEC defense.

The TD total is really good, but it seems like both teams were able to move the ball.

I would say that the jury is still out, but the defense is definitely improved. Plus several of the young guys look good (M. Adams especially).

Concern:

-Secondary. Pass defense is very questionable. Will touch more on that later
-Kicking. The new guy stepped in and was perfect, but Morgan is back into the starting role, who knows how he'll perform?
-Depth on D. We have basically only played 2 ILB the whole season. The backups (who are all 3 true freshmen) must not be ready.
-Backup WRs. We have depth, but McGowan and Davis both dropped easy balls Saturday.

Optimism:
-As for the secondary, most of the mistakes are correctable due to them being freshman. On several of the long plays given up, they've just taken bad angle. That's fixable.
-Our run defense isn't great, but it's improved from last year. Hopefully they can continue
-The OL is performing adequately. Week 1 was bad, but against the best DL we'll see all year they did terrific. We have very good depth here for the first time in forever
-Murray looks as good as we've hoped
-The run game is ridiculous. Quayvon is a road grader and Gurley is Gurley
-Starting receivers. Bennett, Conley, JSW, and Artie Lynch all look excellent.

Lots of yards given up between the 20s.

Yep that is my concern, but as we all know yards don't win games points do. I will take that all year if we win...

You saw Jake falling for that too huh. The QB 5 or so yards past the LOS.
