pfft- we're 17 and 19, choke on it.

(the above was in regards to serrano originally only putting tennessee's numbers- now he's updated to include the sec.)

To be fair, Capital One Cup methodology is pretty stupid. Directors Cup is much better.

Only giving you points for a top ten finish is a poor way to judge athletic success across the board. Check the Director's Cup standings and you'll see far different results.

Current results as of 24 March:

13. Florida
19. Arkansas
21. Texas A&M
28. Georgia
35. Tennessee
36. LSU
43. Kentucky
44. Alabama
49. Auburn

Keep in mind that they haven't included basketball or gymnastics yet.

Yea, fall is always Alabama's worst overall. We suck at womens soccer, womens volleyball and comparatively do vs other SEC schools (only fringe top 25 in running sports). Of course we do have football.

We make our bacon in the spring (softball, mens golf, womens golf) + gymnastics.

Wow, Bama is in the 40s on the Directors Cup, what is the main reason for the difference between the two systems?

I think the Capital One Cup basically only awards you points for finishing in the Top 10 or something dumb like that. So, finishing the 12th is the same as finishing 98th, which makes no sense.

Like I said, the fall is basically football and our remaining "bad" sports (Soccer, Volleyball, Rowing) and a few sports we are average at (running sports).

We finished 6th nationally in swimming, gymnastics will finish in the top 6 probably and then spring has mens golf, womens golf, softball and baseball. None of those are included yet.

So, the first few Directors Cup rankings are generally our worst, even if football wins a title.

Learfield Cup is much better. Uses all NCAA sanctioned sports.

Ya seems like a horrible way to score schools. In a perfect world each sport would be scaled on importance as well but that would be impossible to settle.

in a perfect world it would all be scored equally- just because something produces more revenue (i.e. has more fans) shouldn't matter. i don't understand how you'd call one more 'important' than the other.
