If we were to finish 13th, what does that say about your best win last year?

It would say that teams change from year to year and that UT beat a team that was at the start of their Decline.

quote:

Where does the tennessee hype come from, if not the USC win?

1) Winning their bowl game (reasonable or not).
2) Youth of team (only losing 1 starter on offense and 2 on defense).
3) Strong recruiting classes back to back, filling positions of need.

It ought to be a great game to watch no matter what. For the love of God UT you have to start representing us better OOC if you're going to keep scheduling Oklahomas, and Oregons.

I'd probably say.

1. Iowa
2. UGA (Probably would have won had Worley not gone out for a quarter)
3. UK
4. Bama

Bowl win was best game...probably followed by the thumping put on 10-win Utah State.

I definitely think we can but it also depends a great deal on our OL being better.

We will never stop scheduling tough teams OOC. We just do it. Always have, always will

I think they can. I'm just worried about their corners. Sutton is a beast, but the rest as far as I know are questionable and the Sooners have a good group of wideouts. Their QB situation is questionable at best though

Mosely was a freshmen last year and he improved a lot as the year progress but the opposite cornerback is likely going to be JUCO Justin Martin. If he's even half as good as his rating our corners are locked down tight.

LOL.

So UT is going to beat OU, a team that beat them 34-10 last year, by 2 TD's?

I'll believe THAT when I see it.

I'll say this - OU has a brand new offense, their QB's have lost confidence for some reason, and they have a bit of inexperience on the OL.

They have good skill players though, and UT has soiled themselves in big games recently, especially against teams with a pulse.

I think UT can most certainly win, but they have to prove they can stop the run, and they can't give up big plays, and they most certainly can't turn it over, and Dobbs has a tendency to do that.

I can tell you didn't watch the game at all

there were 3 plays in the game that constituted a 28 point swing in the score.

Not to say we didn't get our asses kicked (we did), but it could have gone much differently with if 3 plays had had slightly different outcomes

^Our oline lost that game. Despite the score, the Defense did a good job but you can't allow Psycho to run wild and win (not that we had much choice seeing as how we were starting two true freshmen on the right side of the OL and it was our RTs first ever collegiate start). After Josh Smith got hurt (OU linemen fell on his leg) we lost our best WR threat for over the middle high production plays. Josh Smith is the absolute best about getting open/creating separation and taking off like a bat out of hell - hope he's 100 percent soon. That kid is criminally underrated (fo real).

OUs offense wasn't particularly effective, at least not in terms of what we expected to see or what they'd done prior. Defense was able to hold them to FGs but as the game wore on our freshmen started to get worn out, even some of our slightly older guys did because offense was just incompetent.

Worley had a concussion IMNSHO. He was abused and abused and he threw at least 2 awful picks (one a pick 6 in the endzone that went the length of the field for a TD). To put it in perspective, Worley was never that great BUT the one thing he was - was careful. I often thought his biggest problem as a QB was that he was too careful with the ball.

Conversely OU's defense not their offense won that game for them.

I did watch the game and bottom line, OU didn't even play its best game and UT still lost by 24 points.

The game was 27-7 in the 3rd quarter, and UT had done about everything they could at that point to stay in the game, OU had failed on a 4th down conversion, thrown an INT, and fumbled a punt or something, I can't quite remember.

UT then proceeded to throw two INT into the end zone. Obviously one was a big play INT return for TD.

And honestly, the score could have been way worse than 34-10, but UT blocked a FG, and OU fricked up in UT territory a few times.

So I mean, lets recap:

Stopped OU on 4th down
Recovered an OU fumble inside OU's territory
got an INT
blocked a FG

And still lost by 24.

Can UT beat OU this year?

Well hell fricking yes they can.

Will they?

Honestly this is the first and possibly the biggest test for the Vols in what could be their comeback year.

If they win then they are back. Tenn is a legit, no kidding, contender for the East. If they lose... well they aren't quite there yet.

I think... they beat Oklahoma but don't win the East. I like this Vols team. I worry their O-line will let them down though.

If I was buying college football stock... well after I bought Boise State... I'd look into the Vols.

When Tennessee beats Bama this year, the melt in T-town will be amazing. Couches will be burning and butt chuggin all over Knoxville as well.

So you are saying that buying stock in the Franzia Winery would be a solid investment?

Probably, but for the sake of the melt, I certainly hope not.

You're so short-sighted. You really think Tennessee wouldn't troll Bama mercilessly over the win after the suffering they've endured at Bama's hands lately? It's not a melt, but it would be entertaining.

What's the line on the game? That's probably what happens.

Yes, they CAN. It's at home. OU is not what they used to be, and UT is going to be pretty good.

Should UT win? Yes

Will they win? I have no idea

This game will tell you how good a coach Jones is. Worst case scenario, the Vols shouldn't lose by >7. Best case they win by 10.

If the OL is a sieve again, it's going to be a long year.
