I know, wimmins hoops spare me it's 100 in a row.
One shy of the century mark
Geno Auriemma and top-ranked UConn seek their 100th consecutive victory when they host No. 6 South Carolina on Big Monday (ESPN2, 9 p.m. ET).

I wish you would have spared the board from a WBB thread

Because there is so much activity on the board right now?

Women's basketball should go the way of Olympic softball. Just name UConn the best ever and stop wasting so much time and money.

Someone will knock them off their perch eventually.

It's clearly impressive and you have to give UConn props, but it's as much an indictment of women's basketball as a functional sport as anything.
It's clear there isn't enough talent or depth across the board to support hundreds of teams.

But probably not this century.

They need to play in a real conference and get out of the AAC.

They beat us by 60 in the Sweet 16 last year. It was brutal.
Q: Was that over Macho Grande?
A: I don't think I'll ever get over Macho Grande.

We got beat by 12 last year. Hopefully it's close

It's a big game for sure. They are expecting record ratings for a women's basketball game tonight.

AT USC and I'd give us a 25% chance. At UCONN, and we gonna bet a serious beatdown.
There ain't no stopping this UCONN train

Streaks are made to come to an end. I remember vividly watching Notre Dame end UCLA's streak - sports streaks, especially one as big as this one, are memorable.
I hope we're the ones to end it. I got to be around our girls a little bit after the game Thursday night - they seemed very loose about the whole thing. I dunno, I just have a feeling this might be a good one.

Agree. 100 in a row is unbelievable no matter what sport you're talking about. UConn WBB is definitely one of the legendary dynasties in sports, certainly college sports.

I agree but RARELY is the gap between #1 and the rest THIS BIG.

And rarely is it the team hyped is the one to pull it off.
It'll be an unexpected team to do it. Well, a MORE unexpected team.
I just don't feel confident at all with it being @UConn. I wouldn't feel that confident if it was at home tbh

I will be happy if USC can keep the loss inside of 20 points.
UConn just does something no other WCBB program does with its teams. And they have been doing it for 15-20 years now. Yeah they have great talent on their rosters, but UConn only plays typically 7-8 players any substantial minutes. They let their other players get minutes in mop-up time against AAC conference foes, which for them "mop-up" usually means the entire 2nd half of 50-pt. blowout games....
UConn lost three huge starters and leaders from their roster last year - one arguably the greatest WCBB player ever, and another arguably the best PG of her generation - and they don't miss a step. How they run their motion offense is like a machine: bang, bang, boom, boom....over and over.
UConn doesn't take home the top 5 prospects in every class. Very often they don't even have the #1 recruiting class. There are many top programs out there with rosters full of 5*s and McD All-Americans, just like UConn's roster. But when those teams meet, it's always a no-contest. UConn has freshmen and sophomores out there running his system with machine-like precision and efficiency, while those other teams have juniors and seniors stumbling and fumbling, and running around with their heads cut off. It's a joke, really....
It's one of two things IMO: either UConn is cheating - they are practicing their girls twice as much as other WCBB teams do, and far beyond what the NCAA allows.
Or, if not, then the other coaching staffs of WCBB need to scrap their old, antiquated offensive systems and copy what UConn is doing. Even if they don't know how to coach it, just set up a projector screen up on the practice courts, with a remote control for stopping and resuming the video, and step-by-step set up their players on the floor where UConn's players set up, and teach their team that way.
Because unless UConn is out-right cheating with how they prepare their teams every year, then they have figured out the perfect offensive system that NO OTHER coaching staff in WCBB has the mentality to beat. I mean, Tennessee in Summitt's hey-days never had these undefeated seasons year after year after year like UConn does. They lost games every year, even in their championship years, but they out-hustled, out-efforted, and out-rebounded their opponents with toughness and wound up winning those titles in the end.
What UConn is doing, is a pathetic joke. It's hurting WCBB and women's collegiate sports altogether. It looks like a WCBB team playing against high school teams all the time, not just in the results, but how efficient and disciplined they look doing it, compared to their opponents. Luigi won't last forever, but it always amazes me that the other HCs in WCBB aren't smart enough to try beating UConn with their own system, if its so dominating and unstoppable. But they never try.....

UCONN is really really good! Wilson & Coates have to dominate the game for us to have any chance. Both are very capable.
