Today he picked up a pretty significant commitment regarding his future in 6'2 MacDuffie school SG Brad Calipari.

quote:

"First of all, my wife has already told me if he decides to come, ‘you’re not leaving,’ so that would mean I’m here five more years. If I’m here five more years, why not stay ’til 70, why not sign a new contract and I’ll be 70 when I leave. Seems like everyone coaches until 70, I was thinking 60, but maybe I’ll coach until 72, maybe 73,” Cal said. “If he comes and he wants to walk on, to be able to spend four years with my son and the ups and downs of this ..."

Cal isn't going anywhere. Neither is Saban. Everyone else should just get used to that. They will be around a while longer to own the league.

Calipari will eventually leave for the NBA but it won't be for another two or three years.

There's a ton of top players that will be free agents in the next two years (Curry, Durant, Griffin, Westbrook, etc...). If one or two of those players change teams, it could change the NBA landscape completely. It makes no sense for Cal to jump to the NBA before those players make their decisions about their long-term plans.

I've only been on here long enough to remember a few handles well enough to know who's a complete buffoon and who's actually a decent poster in spite of whether I agree. You fall under the buffoon category.

I don't understand why you'd think the "NBA landscape" would have anything to do with Cal's decision. Surely you remember that Coach went to the NBA once before and did not like it.

He loves coaching kids and developing their talents. That's why he doesn't like the OAD culture we're presently in.

Coach and his family are extremely happy in Lexington. He won't leave.

He had the opportunity to coach LeBron in Cleveland, which he openly admitted was appealing, and passed it up.

He's also been pretty adamant that if Brad ended up at UK that he wanted to coach him. Barring any kind of NCAA issues, I don't see him leaving while he's there.

To be fair, I don't why anybody would want to coach LeBron. I get your point about wanting to coach his son. Maybe they'll keep around for at least another four years. Calipari has just never struck me as a college lifer. I felt the same about Pete Carroll when he was at USC. Calipari has to start from scratch and deal with a new batch of recruits year after year. Eventually he's going to get tired of it and will want to make the jump.

My view on this is...who cares? He's not that good of a coach schematically and anyone who would be hired to replace him could recruit just fine at UK.

And again we have to remind you that he already made the jump and hated it. The same thing Pitino, Saban, and Spurrier did. Get over it already. When he leaves here, it'll be to retire. Brad's his youngest son after that he'll be looking to spend time with Ellen.

Y'all as tired of hearing this dumb crap about Saban every offseason as we are about it with Cal?

Probably best I adopt that mindset. Opposing staffs plant those stupid rumors to disrupt recruiting....doesn't seem to be working out to well for them.

I reached a point where he'd accomplished so much here that if he left I would tip my cap and thank him.
