Idk how or why. He gets the best players who are NBA ready before they step on campus.

With a bunch of first round picks. That's how.

He just has to roll the ball out until they figure out how to play as a team.

See, this is the stupid stuff people post. Yes, it's just a matter of rolling out the balls. No coaching, no guidance, no play designing/calling, just roll the balls out.

Cal doesn't believe that and that's not what Kentucky pays him for.

Sounds good and call but nobody is buying that

UK fans hear him talk every day. This is exactly what he says, every time.

Like I said in an earlier post, it frustrates UK fans somewhat, because he doesn't talk near as much about national titles as he does preparing players for the next level.

then UK fans are stupid. Obviously the way you get recruits in NCAA basketball is pitching getting them to the NBA since you can do it in 1 year.

Get the best players=put yourself in a position to win a title.

One thing that is never discussed by UK fans is the utter disdain Cal's peers hold him in. For a reason. What he did at Memphis & UMass is well known. What is not mentioned very often is that when he left Memphis, he took Cousins & Walls with him, basically gutting Memphis' recruiting class. Yes, perfectly legal. Morally depends on whether you wear UK blue.

It would be no different than Coach Payton being more concerned with Brees personal numbers than the team getting to the SB.

Would probably upset most NOLA fans (except the ones on the MSB who only care about Brees stats).

UK fans love Cal, their only complaint is that he talks more about player development for the NBA than he does about titles.

We are in the hunt every year. I'm good with it myself.

False... In college ball, acquisition of talent is based in large part on where you can get them. The Saints won't find it any easier (and likely harder) to win if Drew Brees commands a giant contract. Cal's method is to essentially let titles be the natural byproduct of talent acquisition...

it is entirely different, because Payton doesn't have to use Brees numbers to recruit other players to the Saints. How did this make sense in your head?

again, it's a really dumb complaint. If you are getting your guys ready for the NBA, then you are building a very good basketball team. Good basketball teams win shite tons of games and are in position to win it all nearly every year- which UK is.

I assumed as much

I've just actually personally heard UK fans mention exactly what you posted, and I found is absurd. It's just looking for something to bitch about.

I would never claim to know more than a Div I coach, but if I was ever in Cal's position where I could just about name who my roster was, I would want 2 or 3 of the one and done kids, then I would want a group that was really good, but more likely to stick around for 4 years.
You just can't beat the experience of having been in those types of situations and being on the floor to add a calm to the team.

But given what Cal has accomplished, can't really fault his approach!

One and done is part of what is wrong with the NBA and college game. Calipari exploits it better than anyone else. Kudos to him I guess.

when his career at UK is over and he only has 1 natty he will be perceived as underachieved. It would be the same at Bama if NS were to have finished his career with one natty after 15 years.

I'd argue it's worse. A quick glance at Cal's Wikipedia page shows me that in 7 seasons, he's had 28 guys drafted. So that's an average of 4 guys a year draft worthy. Just think about how nuts that is.

but he has chosen this for his BB team. He could recruit the non one and dones and develop a group of players who play together like the Conzaga and Wichita state.

Eh, I spend a decent amount of time in Memphis. Have multiple family members that live there as well as my father graduating from Memphis. I get a mixed feeling about him from Memphis most of the time.

Are you really choosing something like that if any coach would be happy to have these one and dones

a team full of one and dones is different then one or two. He can choose to not recruit them right? So it is his choice. Nothing wrong with it. Other top problems don't have issues with 4-5 freshmen leaving each year.
