Why do we continue to do this? It's clearly not working. Why not change it up a bit? Stop putting so much pressure on these kids and emphasis on this game. Let's just try to instill in these kids that Bama is just another game. Maybe that'll work. K thx bye

I think for Bama and LSU to change the bye week the SEC office would need to move both teams non SEC weeks. I know Saban isn't going to schedule an off week in the first few weeks of the season nor is he going to wait until the week before Auburn. I would assume LSU has the same issue?

I think if Saban could do like he wants he would have Bama's bye before UT. That seems to be the point the Bama players start to show the wear of all the games in a row.

Might have more to do with wanting players to heal up/rest before what will inevitably be the most physical matchup either team will face all season, and less to do with psychological reasons.

Yeah I don't know all the technical reasons behind it. I was just assuming it's a psychological thing at this point.

Would make more sense to take the bye the week after for the same reason. Both teams are beat up after this game.

As much as coaches like to come out with this bs about just another game both sides know that isn't true. It's usually the deciding game for the West at that point. I'd rather go into it rested.

Also wife is due to have our first baby during the bye week so I'm good with it.

But it is. The game is kids against kids. Bama kids aren't super human. Just coached better.

Kind of hard to instill that mentality into the players when the media is usually hyping and analyzing every aspect of the game for an entire week. Also with this, the history of the game is already set, so recruits know coming in how big it is.

I am pretty sure the schools schedule their own bye/non conference game weeks, then get the SEC's final approval

If I were you I would honestly be happy to have a bye before the Bama game, the more preparation, rest, and time to gameplan you have to play a team of that magnitude, regardless of what negative psychological impact the team may experience, will be of immense help when its gametime.

You're correct. As you probably know, many teams schedule an off week before the Alabama game (which usually doesn't help). I've always said that the bye week should be AFTER the Alabama game to give a team the chance to heal and regroup psychologically after the loss (in most cases). If you'll check, you will find that most teams perform poorly the week after Alabama.
