Buy or Sell: the perception of MSU's team would've benefited more from a close game vs LSU

We blow LSU out, and everyone says, oh, well if they were blown out by MSU, LSU must just suck. I have heard much more negatives about LSU's team than positives about MSU's team in the past two days.

It sounds crazy, but I think State's team would be looked at as a better team today if they had won with a game winning drive in the final minutes of the 4th quarter. People would've come away from the game saying:

"That's two really good teams that just played a good game, congrats State on a clutch win, looks like yall have a chance at making a run for the SEC."

rather than,

"Damn, LSU blows and Orgeron is as lost as Hellen Keller without her service dog. Mississippi State still hasn't really played anyone worth a damn, but I guess they looked pretty good beating a shite opponent"

Option C: It's too early to tell. Need to see both teams against other good teams.

right now, maybe, but if LSU really is garbage then letting them play us close would be a detriment when they start losing more games.

P.S. don't get too wrapped around the axle about the rants opinion of State.

Ultimately, it has a way of sorting itself out. After week 4-5 is *usually* late enough to have a better idea of sorting out good teams. MSU's issue is they've played one "good team" thus far. And that good team is based on preseason expectations, not because they've already proven it on the field necessarily (BYU looking like they're just not very good this year so far.) By week 5, you'll have played LSU, UGA, and Auburn... with the last two of those on the road. Regardless of the opinions on UGA and Auburn... you walk out of that undefeated and Miss St will be seen as a contender at least until they prove otherwise.

It's no different than UGA right now honestly. "The East is a shitshow" talk continues. First we were on heavy upset alert against App State... Then Notre Dame was supposed to throttle us according to a good portion of the rant until they didn't and then it was "they were 4-8 last season." Welcome to the Rant... same as always.

I'm more excited about this Miss St matchup than I ever have been to play you guys fwiw.

I don't mind people having their doubts. Make it to 9-0 headed into the Bama game and that changes. If we're 5-0 after Auburn, then 11-1 is a very realistic expectation.

No offense to LSU, but it wouldn't have mattered either way with Orgeron as the coach. One game doesn't make a season in the SEC, so the opportunity for our team to prove itself will play out every week. It will be the same thing this week. We go to UGA and pull out a win everyone will suddenly remember all the points they gave up in SEC games last year and say they aren't that good either. It will take an entire season for our team to prove itself to the outsiders. Just hope our boys stay level headed and are up to the task.

Solid post. It should be a really good match up this weekend, wish I could make it up to Athens. In my younger years I used to fool around with a UGA girl and stayed with her for a Georgia-Auburn game, by far the best all around experience visiting an opponent SEC school for me, and I have experienced game day at all the SEC schools outside of Mizzou and South Carolina.

Athens is everything that Oxford wants, and claims to be. If Ole Miss signed all of those 5 stars because of their beautiful campus and women, then Georgia should have nothing but 5 stars on their roster.

Good luck to yall. Win or lose this weekend, I still expect yall to take the East this year.

You could ask the same of Georgia at this point. Notre Dame is always overhyped and sucks arse. I have no issue with Georgia, but what do we really know about them either?

My team, LSU, sucks. Dude, enjoy flying below the radar as long as you can....

As for your buy/sell....I am selling. State has a good team.

Did you read the rest of my post besides that? I said IF we make it past UGA and Auburn. Take a look at the schedule and tell me where I'm wrong then.

Realistically, we'll probably be 9-3 or 10-2. Unless we make it though the next two weeks unscathed. Then Bama is the only game we won't be heavy favorites in.

Based on the actual outcome of the game, the only unknown is how good Miss St is.

Well, we went 10-2 three years ago including a 4 point loss @ BAMA and a loss to an OM team that played an ineligible player(Tunsil was ruled inelible after the fact for the last 6 games of 2014). So technically we went 10-1 that year, and we will beat OM this year, so I wouldn't say 11-1 is unrealistic, not saying it will happen either.

FPI doesn't think it's unrealistic, they have us going 10-2 with losses to Auburn(48.8% chance to win) and Alabama (35.6% chance to win).

If Ole Miss didn't have the team on salary we would've gone 11-1 that year, that 2014 team was stacked. Had some problems down the stretch with Jrob and Geoff Collins, but we were 10-1 going into the last game of the season, so saying 11-1 is unrealistic is not true.

Like I said, I'm not saying it will happen because I don't believe it will, but to say it is unrealistic, is, well, unrealistic.
