"Clutch plays, clutch plays you're either winning or your losing, no grey area."
There is a difference between passion and emotion, we don't like emotional people we like passionate people. There is a difference, emotional teams ride the roller coaster, that's not us. We're are an older veteran team now, we are mature, we take it one snap at a time."
This is directly to the team and what he has been saying to the media as well. Glad to see him speaking the truth this season and knowing he has no excuses.
I like the message to the team, keeping all the practice situation like end of game close winning and losing type situations as that was our one weakness last year.
12-1 SEC Champs coming!!!

Does this mean the 20 year rebuilding plan is over?

Walk the walk then we might give a shite.

Well it's about frickin time. Y'all have been young for the last 5 years

5 is a massive understatement

This is gonna get downvoted to hell because it's Tennessee and Butch Jones, and posted by a Tennessee fan.
But it's refreshing to see something different out of Lyle for a change. Because if I hear "we're a young team " or "the depth isn't where we'd like it to be " one more fricking time, I'm gonna throw a brick at that motherfricker.

Yup...no excuses this year

No excuses, Vols should win at least 10 games if not more.

Yep...at least they were 1-0 vs aTm during that rebuilding period. Beat the aggies like a rented mule.

10-2 Regular season is absolute worst possible record that will be acceptable barring multiple key players (Dobbs, JRM, Cam, Barnett, Hurd) missing most of the season if not all.

Translation of the OP: "If I, as coach of this team do not win the East this year, you can fire me."

100% agreed. Barring a very injury plagued season, VOLS should win the East at the very least

The rebuilding project starting in 2009.
Restarted in 2010 because Kiffin left and restarted again in 2013 because Dooly was a total train wreck.
Each coach gets his new clock to start when he gets hired.
Butch is the only one who's done a good job building the team from the ground up and stayed around to see it through.

Yep - they are the most talented team in the division and the most experienced across the board. Really shouldn't even be close, honestly. Georgia and Florida have talent, but they also have areas with big deficiencies in talent and/or experience. Tennessee has a pretty solid combination across the board on all of them.

We can at least put him on the hot seat in 2017.
If we go 9-3 and don't win the East we wouldn't fire him, but we would be allowed to be disappointed and start to believe he may never reach the next level of success that we should shoot for at TN.

My only caviat to this "have to win the East thing" is that I think we can go 10-2 and still barely miss Atlanta and have a "good" season and show we are still moving in the right direction with a win in a NY6 Bowl.
It isn't the goal but I would still be happy overall.
I am worried about following up a potential 11 year streak ending hugely emotional win with a road trip to what I think is going to be a sneaky good and dangerous Georgia team.
Imagine Georgia's talent coming into that game with TN at home with TN being 4-0 and top 5-10 in the country and Georgia possibly being 3-1 or 2-2 unranked.
They would have all the motivation and I don't know how our team would react In that situation since none of them have ever been in that situation before.
If UGA were to beat us in that scenario and we lose one of the West games we would need UGA to lose to Ole Miss, UF and 1 of @Missouri, @USC or Auburn at home to still win the East.

When's the Preseason Natty Championship Parade?

Already setting yourselves up for the suspension/injury excuse I see. So far away from the season.
