Because in this discussion, greatest refers to a single player; not a team.

Doesn't answer my question. How can someone be the GOAT when they don't even win their conference?

Ahhh ... now I'm getting it.
Y'all are concerned that this tarnishes Cam's legacy.
Your responses make more sense now; I understand why folks are defensive.

A players ability to lead his team and win championships is part of being the greatest. Johnny never even got that close

Because their are multiple units on the football field.
In this case, the player in question can do nothing about the horrific play of one of those units; he can only control his own play.

QBs are held to higher standards and are often rated by their accomplishments (i.e. championships). Manziel doesn't have shite. There is no chance he is the GOAT. Probably not even top 20.

This. Without accomplishments, he isn't the GOAT.

You're certainly entitled to that opinion.
And in this case, you can take it up w Bruce Feldman (and others), as cited in the OP.
I'm not interested in battling you.

I think that jff is an incredible talent. And I'm not sure that he isn't the best college QB I've ever seen.

Sadly, Sumlin could not put a team together that could help Manziel win a natty.

My conclusion therefore is that Chizik is a better coach than Sumlin. There is no other explanation.

JFF also shattered Cam's yardage record.

In both of his seasons.
Congratulations.

After all, yards are the most important stat, right? Especially when you play in a more pass orientated offense.

Yes, that includes the one in which JFF played 3 top 5 teams. Cam didn't play a top 5 team until the BCS game.
How many of those games were wins for Johnny Boy?

Cam Newton beat #12 South Carolina (twice), #12 Arkansas (who went to the Sugar Bowl), #6 LSU, #11 Alabama (who throttled Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl), #2 Oregon, and the best Mississippi State team that has been field since the late 1990s. Cam Newton's team ran the gauntlet in the SEC West, when it was the toughest it has ever been. Keep in mind, I put rankings beside the team at the time they played Auburn. Mississippi State ended the season ranked.

Cam Newton > Johnny Manziel, DWI.

Agree that a QB's ability to inspire his team is part of the calculus.

However a Qb's inability to play defense is not.
