Beginning at the 1:55 mark of this podcast Bruce explains that Cam used to be the best player he had ever seen. That opinion has now changed. Bruce goes on to explain his firm conviction that JFF is the GOAT.

Bruce is probably the most revered college football writer in the country. Show me another more highly regarded. His opinion is worth infinitely more than any consensus this community reaches on the subject.

With that being said I'm announcing that the debate over the SEC's best QB in history has been suspended. The fallacious arguments about championships (JFF's lack of which are in no way his fault) not only miss the mark but are intellectually dishonest. It's difficult to articulate how far short they come to carrying the day.

The discussion may re-open if a writer of Bruce's class hereafter contradicts his very direct statement. That statement again being that JFF is the GOAT. Unless and until that happens, Bruce's opinion will serve as binding precedent on this issue.

Thank you.

I would be so pissed if even while having the GOAT at QB, my team played Duke in the Chicken Bowl.

Cam Newton took a team with no defense and a previous 8-5 record to the National Championship and won. He was better than Johnny Manziel, and that will remain so in the NFL.

While this post appears irrelevant at first glance, it's actually not.

A&M's putrid defense is what ultimately allowed JFF to distinguish himself as the GOAT.

Going forward, JFF's teams will not be remembered as A&M's best, and that's okay. Instead we'll look back and recognize that JFF's tenure represents that of the best single player in at least a generation.

A&M's GOAT QB trashes OU in a bowl. Bama's gets dominated by OU as a senior

Okay.

That doesn't change the fact that aTm did nothing with the GOAT under center.

So A&M must be really bad if with the best player ever they finish 4th? I don't understand how he's the best player ever but y'all are going to be better next year without him and one of the best WR's in the nation too.

Because even the best player ever--a QB--can't offset a defensive unit that finishes dead-last in every defensive category.

aTm's GOAT QB has nothing to show for it.

Bama's does. Congrats on the GOAT QB.

Cam's defense finished 53rd in scoring.

JFF's finished 96th.

Stop trying to compare these two units.

Cam was better not by much, Johnny didn't have the power like cam did and didn't win a title.

And this defense that was the worst in the nation this year is supposed to be serviceable next year? I'm just saying there's hypocrisy in the A&M fans that want to say he's the greatest of all time, yet expect to be competing to win the West next year and act like people are crazy for predicting that they'll drop a little bit.

No one is saying Texas A&M has anything to show for it.
The conversation is about Johnny.
And I think he'll be ok, despite the fact that posters on tRant think he's lousy.
Gig'em, JFF.
