What has been suspected for awhile is now official: Brice Ramsey is leaving Georgia.
The rising senior quarterback has decided to transfer to a program where he could compete for the starting quarterback job and potentially play this season. That’s according to a statement Ramsey provided to Dawgs247.com on Tuesday morning. His mother Yolanda, in a brief conversation, declined to elaborate.
The statement, which is on Dawgs247.com:
“I have enjoyed my years at UGA, the bonds I have made with the coaching staffs as well as the numerous friendships with my teammates will last a lifetime and will continue to help guide me with decisions and future endeavors. I will never look back on my time at UGA with regrets, I have loved every minute of my time here. However I understand the meaning of living life with no regrets so after a talk with my family over spring break I have decided to try and play my last year at another institution. I thank Coach Kirby Smart for the advice he has given me and the way he guided me from the moment he arrived on campus. I wish him, the coaching staff and the players nothing but the best and will forever cheer for them. Go Dawgs!!”
That brings Georgia down to just two scholarship quarterbacks for this season: Sophomore Jacob Eason and freshman Jake Fromm.
Ramsey is due to graduate in May, and would be eligible to play right away as a graduate transfer.
Two years ago, Ramsey was the favorite to win Georgia’s starting quarterback job. And he might have if Mike Bobo, who recruited him and groomed him for two seasons, had not left to become Colorado State’s head coach.
But after a change of coordinators and quarterbacks coach, and the arrival of Greyson Lambert (himself a grad transfer from Virginia), Ramsey lost the quarterback competition before the 2015 season. He did play in spurts, but never started.

According to persons with knowledge of the situation Bulldog defensive back Reggie Wilkerson has elected to transfer for his final year of eligibility. News broke earlier on Monday that senior quarterback Brice Ramsey will also be transferring.
Those same sources tell Dawgs247 that Wilkerson will also be a graduate transfer after enrolling early in January of 2013 and red shirting after a serious knee injury in his first season.

Best back up punter in the business, too bad he was recruited to play QB.

Was pretty much a done deal given some of Smart's comments this off season. He was talking to a PWO that we brought in at QB and said that the kid would be the #3 QB on the roster from day 1 and have an opportunity to compete.
Ramsey was never a guy that practiced hard enough to impress coaches it seemed. He was a project on the way in coming out of HS and just never got where they needed him to. I hope he proves everyone wrong though and goes somewhere to have some success this year.

A fitting final act of the recruiting class of 2013.
In all seriousness, I hope they both find a good opportunity to play.

Devastating development....
2016: Played in six games...had a career-best three solo tackles vs. Louisiana...made a tackle against Nicholls...had one assisted tackle at Missouri...
2015: Played in 13 games ... two tackle performances at Vanderbilt and Tennessee ...
2014: Played in one game ... registered one tackle in his UGA debut vs. Troy

This isn't unusual at all. Kirby is not only setting the new agenda, but also recruiting some existing players out of a job. I'd call that doing good work.

What we've been watching with Orgeron, players AND coaches. They need some time to get their people in there.

Grad Transfers are a positive thing for the school and the player.
Player - got his degree;now can go somewhere else with a better chance to play.
School - helps graduation rates and scores with the NCAA and helps to manage the 85 man roster limit.
A true win - win for everyone.
No need to bash any players or schools.
Jmo.

I don't blame either player for transferring. They were falling further behind on the depth chart and athletes want to see the field. Both were 4-star recruits that just never seemed to put it together. Wilkerson never seemed to get along with the new staff and lashed out on social media a couple of times during the season, so I'm really not surprised about him leaving.
